August 12, 2006-DIS DREAMS DO COME TRUE-Magical Western Cruise

I have a couple of questions about some of the other posts. Whats a power strip and do I need one? Also are door shoe hangers beneficial? I usually have a whole suit case devoted to shoes and never really thought about hanging them up or putting them away. Of course I havent been on a 7 day cruise before.. always 4.

Also, what are the baskets you guys are talking about? Is there a person that does up baskets and decorations for your room or something? I would be interested in this if so. I was thinking about calling in an order from DCL to have setting in our room for my daughter, but I couldnt find anything on their site that just made me go... "ohhhhh... ahhhh".... so I haven't yet... any comments?
Hazel,

A power strip is an extension cord of sorts. The strip is a long bar that has about 6 outlets in it. If you need to re-charge any batteries, cell phones, etc., this will be necessary.

The over-the-door shoe hangers are for organizing small items so you don't have a lot of clutter laying around. This was a tip I read in a book.

DCL does have basket orders available, but a lot of cruisers have used Shirley at http://www.theperfectgift.cc. I'm hoping to place an order with them as well.

Hope this helps you out. Have a great night! :wave2:

Yeah, sorry about that. I think that's one of my major panic's at the moment, the weather. The other is the flight down. I hate flying, which is an understatement in itself.

Okay here's our story from last cruise....Our last cruise with DCL (land and sea) bless them, they royally messed our flights up. We didn't find this out until we are stood at the check in counter at 6am. DCL don't open until 9am, so we were kind of stuck with no flights. We ended up driving, as we had no idea what we should do, and our vacation time was ticking away. United didn't have an availability on any flights that day either, so we couldn't buy tickets. We got our money back for the flights we had bought, an onboard credit, an upgrade at WDW and lots of apologies, but I sure wasn't booking flights through them again!! Ben also has said that he NEVER wants to drive to Florida again!

I think because of the driving Tim got a combination of heat exhaustion and gosh knows what on our 2nd day at Disney, and was ill the rest of the vacation (he gets this when he is super stressed at work, I think his body just calls a time out, and he had been working pretty hard) Ben and me went to MK on our own, while he stayed at the hotel. He stayed in the cabin a lot on the cruise, venturing out to sit and watch Ben at the pool, and for our excursion on Nassau, but he really wasn't 100%.

We decided to book an couple of extra days when we disembarked at WDW, however we got a call on the ship from his work to say things had gone horribly wrong (he's the Technology boss of his company, he'll hook your wi-fi up for you!!) so he spent the rest of the vacation working. He spent one day in the lobby of the Contemporary using their wi-fi as our room wasn't ready. Managed to get him to AK on our last day, when Ben suddenly got a raging fever and was pretty sick. Housekeeping were so sweet, we'd had to get them up to change the bedding late one night. The lady came back with a balloon and a Goofy plush for Ben. We left a huge tip! He was fine the next day, I guess a 24 hour bug from somewhere. We had to drive back that day, all 14 hours of it. So that was our really fab vacation.

Why on earth I'm signing up for another one is completely beyond me! Hence the worrying about everything stance.

Good morning everyone. Happy single digit day!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Louise,

I am so sorry that your vacation didn't go well last year :sad1: With a group like ours (DIS meets, etc.) you, Tim and Ben are bound to forget all about that unmentionable vacation :cheer2: .

Have a great day.

BTW, does anyone happen to know the prices of the laundry service and dry cleaning on board?

Pam

I'm just getting ready to head home from biz trip number two of three b4 the cruise. Starting to feel the magic and am just ready to get down to Atlanta to finish up my work so I can really get into cruise mode. Almost wish I were heading directly there today and knocking out the client meetings today and tomorrow so that next week could be all cruise planning all the time. I'll say one thing, these last two weeks full of travel have made the time FLY. I can't believe the cruise is only a little more than a week away.

Happy Thursday to all.

You should check out the auto train some time. It leaves out of VA and drops you off just outside Orlando. Last Sept, we took DS and our MINI Convertible for a week of fun. (Poor DD had to stay home b/c the public High School frowns on pulling kids for vacations.) It's not any cheaper than flying but it is kind of an adventure in its own right.

We did that our first trip to WDW. I spent the whole night thinking the train was going to derail the sound it made going over the tracks!! Didn't get much sleep, Tim and Ben slept like logs naturally. The family rooms are downstairs, not sure if one of the rooms upstairs would be less noisy! Apart from the sleep deprevation it was fun though.

Louise, it's going to be wonderful and magical this time! :wizard: :wizard:
