Aug vs Oct 3 night Wish cruise

So I have an opportunity to take a family member who has never cruised on a short three night Wish cruise this year. Three nights is as long as they want to commit to because they are not sure how they feel about cruising in general but they want to go to Castaway. (Three nights are not a personal favorite of mine but willing to make it work)

The dates that work best are either late August or mid to late October. This person is not very into Halloween, I enjoy Halloween, but myself and my son who will also be coming are already going to two MNSSHPs in September. Personally, I would rather see the silver anniversary stuff. That being said I’m very concerned about how hot it will be in August.

Suggestions or thoughts?

The weather might be slightly cooler in October, but as dcassetta said, only slightly. While both periods are in hurricane season, hurricanes are more likely in late August than in late October.

There will likely be more children on the ship in late August than in October, since some schools will not have started back yet.

My only Halloween cruise was nearly 20 years ago, so I can't recall how "Halloweeny" the ship felt on most days of the cruise.

I think it would come down to cost. The cruise fare is comparable, so I would look at airfare.

And cabin choice could play into it.

The air and water temp differences should be negligible.

I don’t find Halloween on the High Seas to be intrusive. And I am not a big Halloween fan. But this is not gory or frightening. Mickey Mouse pumpkin heads. A pumpkin tree in the Atrium. Here is the Fantasy in 2021:IMG_4510.jpegIMG_4583.jpeg

That’s probably not a lot of help. I would pick October over August, generally, but the idea of the Anniversary does sound nice. But without the special, extra fireworks on a 3-night itinerary and the possibility of their running out of special gifts, this aspect seems less significant (I’m basing this on their running out of Inaugural season gifts in about 6-7 months).

I have never sailed in the summer months and avoid high-crowd dates.

Whichever you choose, let’s hope it’s a great experience.

I've sailed in both August and October and really didn't detect much of a difference in temps, quite honestly. My bigger concerns would be hurricanes (which you could encounter in either month - we just avoided one on our early Oct. cruise last year!) and overall costs. As PP noted, Halloween on the High Seas isn't that obtrusive - there are decorations and they had trick or treating (which was a madhouse), but you don't have to participate.

Edited to add: if you are considering the Wish, prepare for crowds during either month. When we sailed in Oct. of last year, the Wish was packed.

Thanks all! The cost is slightly lower in Aug (middle bump out room) vs Oct (Deck 11 but near festival of foods).

I didn’t realize the temps would be so close! I appreciate the info. We mostly sail in off season (Nov- Late Feb) and most the time the water at Castaway is extremely chilly. I’m hoping to avoid that (I don’t mind and my son doesn’t but our guest will) without it being unbearably hot.

It’s the Wish. So I figured busy no matter when we travel but I could see Aug having more kids.

We sailed on the Wish last year in August and it was fine in terms of temp...hot, but fine. I will say that it felt very crowded and certainly had a lot more kids than any of our other cruises (usually May or December). I'd probably vote for October hoping for lower crowds.

We did sail on the Fantasy during the 25th Anniversary and it really wasn't that "great". The gift was nice and the extra fireworks were cool, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do that. Especially if you wouldn't get the extra fireworks.
