We are planning an unexpected trip to WDW. We have it narrowed down to the following weeks:

Aug 20-27
Nov 12-19
Dec 10-17

If we go in Aug, our 6 yr old DD will not miss any school, and we can get the free dining. However, it'll be extremely HOT!

In Nov, the temps will be about perfect for us, but we may not be able to get the free dining, and may only be able to use a AAA discount. Also, my DD would miss some school.

In Dec, the Christmas stuff will be going on, but it may be a tad chilly and again, we may not get any special deals. However, I believe this is Value Season, so it'd be a little cheaper anyways. Also, our DD would miss a week of school.

So, looking for some advice. We picked these weeks because we want to go when crowds are down (hopefully). Originally, it was going to be Nov or Dec, but now we are contemplating Aug, for the free dining.

What do you think?

Well, we're going in August AND December this year...so I'm probably not much help. :)

Aug will be hot, that's a given. November could be almost as hot, it was in the mid-80s when we made our Nov trip a couple years ago. Lines were really short, though, it was great. Dec could be great weather, too. Light jacket in the evening type weather...seeing as your from Johnstown (hello from Hilliard :) ), you won't need your winter coat when the temp drops ALLLLL the way down into the 60s like the natives. :)

We loved our November trip, I'd almost do that one if you have to pick one of the three. You'll see some of the Christmas stuff, though not all. The weather will be great, the crowds will be down, and the kiddo will miss some school but not a whole week. Seems to be the best compromise you have.

Second choice would be the August version, it's only downside is the heat. If you can handle the heat, you'll save some $$ with the discounts and dining.

Well if you can stand really hot humid weather with the possibilty of thunderstorms then August is for you. But personally I like the milder temps and low crowds of November. December is fine too. We usuallly go in Jan or October. This year we're doing both. Also, you have to look at DD's age. It's easier for younger kids to miss school than say high schoolers. My DS (15) will be missing school for both of our trips this year but it's not an issue for him, he's a straight A honor's student. That said, the school still pitches fits that we take him out. My DD (8) finds it harder to be out of school and miss the work, it takes her longer to catch up. Since she's in year round, we go when she's out and let DS miss school because it's easier for him.

If you are thinking of doing the free dine package, you had better book that one fast as it sells out really quick. Dec is great due to the Christmas Decorations and of course Mickey's Very Merry Christmas will be going on and that is a great night for the kids and the kid in all of us...

I don't think the school thing will be a big issue for us. We typically drive, and my daughter can do her schoolwork on the way up and on the way back, to help pass the time.

Even with the free dining, Aug is the least preferable for me, mostly because of the heat. We usually go in Oct, and it is still borderline too hot then, IMO.

Seems like maybe Dec would be the better week, since it is value season, and the Christmas stuff would be going on. On the other hand, Nov would be warmer, so swimming and water rides would be better...tough decision...

August is horribly hot, and incredibly humid. In fact it was the humidity that got to us...we were exhausted by noontime!!
November is nice, but early on in the month it can still be pretty hot/humid. My favorite time is early Dec. The days are warm, sometimes actually hot, the evenings are cool and dry...there isn't nearly as much rain as the other two months.
At 6, I don't think missing school time is that big of a deal....but, that is solely my opinion. I took my dd out of school for a week in kindergarten, 1st grade and again in 2nd grade. It's completely up to each family to make that call.
I say go with Dec!!! The Christmas decorations and special stuff going on is unbeatable.

Alright, I think it's going to be Dec then. Price is a little lower, crowds may be less that week, and the Christmas stuff is up.

We have decided to try out POP this time, our first experience with a value, but we have heard many nice things about it. So, I'll probably get it booked up this week, and then watch for a deal.

Thanks all,
Andy
