Well, we (me, husband, son-7, daughter-5) just returned today from an absolutely fabulous vacation. Our vacation started on the 24th with three days in WDW staying at the Polynesian. If you would like to hear about that portion, I will be posting something later on the other trip reports forum.

For our sea portion of the trip, we were picked up at Animal Kingdom at 12:30pm on Thursday the 27th. I highly recommend this if you are doing the land/sea combination. Since your luggage needs to be ready at 8am, but you don't get picked up until almost noon, we didn't see the point in just hanging around the hotel all morning when we could be having one last visit to a park. It worked out very well. We got to AK at 9am and got VIP passes to Festival of the Lion King. It is an absolute must see. What a wonderful production. We also got to Kali River Rapids one more time and the kids got some fun time in Dinoland.Anyway, we got to the port around 1:30, checked the kids into Oceaneers and pretty much walked right onto the ship. Booking the package was great, we didn't have to check in at the port since we did it at our resort. Getting announced is so cool, and the ship is beautiful. This was our first cruise ever and we were thrilled. We immediately went to our stateroom since it was ready and got the kids changed so they could get some pool time in. I went down to guest services to book a Martini tasting and give them our pillowcases for autographs. Then I went to the Promenade lounge to meet some Disboard folks. I met gichicdoc, Mrs. Scooby, Newbie Cruisers, SS Oceanlover and BD Moose. I know I'm forgetting someone, please forgive me. It was great to put faces to names and gichicdoc and her hubby as well as Glinda were at the same martini tasting as us and we had a blast. My husband had ordered champagne for our stateroom and a fruit and cheese plate. We only had a little time to indulge though as the kids were dying to get to the pool. The sail away party was fun and I loved watching the ship leave the port. Who are those people on the dock with the Mickey Mouse hands waving to the ship?? We had early seating (5:45) so we had to get right to the room and change for dinner. Our rotation was APPT. We met our servers, Rowena and Isac and the kids were thrilled at the decor of Animators Palette. I have to say though, that of the three restaurants this was our least favorite. Maybe it was because we were exhausted from the day. I had the swordfish and my husband had the Beef Wellington. It was all very good, we were just too tired to really appreciate it. I think Rowena was disappointed that we didn't drink, but after the champagne, and a drink up on deck at the party, we were done. We also met our head server, Daniele and we really enjoyed watching the colors change. We took the kids over to Oceaneers to have a look then went to get pictures taken with some characters. My son was beside himself to meet Capt. Jack Sparrow. My daughter got to meet Belle, Snow White, Donald and Daisy and they both took pictures with Peter Pan and Wendy. That was a lot of characters in one evening. By the way, I just loved the Peter Pan! He was so full of energy! We didn't go to the show as we were spent. We just went to the room and crashed! Actually, the kids crashed. Hubby and I sat out on our veranda (room 8076) and enjoyed looking at the ocean for a little while, then turned in.

The stateroom was great and I was surprised at the amount of space there was to store things. I brought an over-the-door shoe holder on the advice of these boards, but didn't end up using it. There was plenty of room in the bathroom for our things and the luggage fit neatly under the bed.

We had our Mickey wake-up call at 7am, though I was up at 6:30. I suddenly woke up not knowing where I was! How disconcerting! It took me a minute to remember I was on a ship. I went to the veranda and took about a million pictures of the sunrise. We went and had breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet and ate out on deck. You know, I could get used to this!! Today was Nassau and our Dolphin Encounter. We met at Wavebands and followed the line to the boat that took us to Blue Lagoon. It took about 45 minutes with a stop to pick up a few more folks. It was a beautiful ride with clear skies and crystal water. After receiving instructions, we went to sit on the floating dock to await our encounter. The dolphins were already swimming around and popping their heads out of the water as if to check us out. The trainer was really funny and the dolphins were beautiful. When it was our turn to get into the water to get a kiss, my daughter got terrified. She remained afraid of the dolphin until near the very end. The trainer helped her feed the dolphin and we both held her hand so she could pet it. He was very positive and patient with her. I don't know why she was so scared. We got to "dance", pet, kiss and hug the dolphin. They truly are beautiful animals. When we got back to the ship, we checked the kids into Oceaneers and we took a very quick walk to the shops. I was nervous about leaving the ship with the kids in the club, but all was well. We really only went to about 4 shops and took a quick look at the straw market then came back. My son didn't even want to leave. That evening we ate at Parrot Cay and the kids were so excited to see Rowena and Isac. We had a new menu that they are trying out for the 10 and 11 night cruises. I had the pork and it was wonderful. My daughter didn't want dessert (still can't believe that!) so Rowena brought her a plate with "Nothing" written on it in chocolate. We nearly died laughing. We had a nice chat with Daniele about Italy. (He is from Tuscany. My grandparents are from Italy as well.) He also told us a little about being on the ship and how often he sees his family, etc. We took a walk around the ship after dinner and enjoyed the sunset. We wanted to take the kids to the Hercules show, but they wanted to go back to the club, so we dropped them there. Let me tell you, that Hercules show is a riot! I loved it and what pipes on the lead muse!! I would put her up there with Patti LaBelle. And that is no small compliment coming from me since I have two degrees in voice and am very critical when I see a show. So, after the show, we got the kids, put them to bed and sat out on the veranda for a bit before turning in ourselves.

Well, since I am still exhausted from the trip, and by the way I still feel like things are moving, I think that I will call it a night. I will post more tomorrow and hopefully have some pictures for you as well. Oh, in case you were wondering, Ernesto didn't impact us too much. We experienced some outer bands of wind and rain towards the end of the day at Castaway Cay, and we had some rough seas Wednesday, but all in all, the captain managed to find us clear skies and we didn't have to alter plans really. (Some things were cancelled on CC because he thought we might have to leave early.) They thought that we might have had to dock at Miami, but as it turned out, we were able to dock at PC. Good night all, and I will have more for you tomorrow.

What a great report!!!! Can you tell me more about the pillowcases? We are going on our first disney cruise December 10,2006.
Sure! If you drop off pillowcases to guest services when you board, they will have them autographed by the Disney characters. Be sure to wash the pillowcases first. I just got plain white ones and made transfers with Disney clipart that I got online. I did the Three Mouseketeers for my son and the Princesses for my daughter. Be sure to include fabric markers and instructions if you want specific characters. (My son really wanted Capt. Jack Sparrow!) Put them in a plastic ziploc bag with your name and room number on it. They will deliver it to your stateroom on the last night. We didn't tell the kids, so it was a neat surprise for them. If you use fabric markers, you have to iron the pillowcases to set the ink. Enjoy!

Thank you so much!!!!! My kids will totally love it. I am so surprised that this is the first I heard of it. We are soooooo excited. I cant wait to hear more of your report.

So glad you had a great time!

Your trip sounds like ours at ths start of Aug. We had the same dining rotation, dining times, did the dolphin encounter at the same time also, and even a bit of couds and rain (which didn't bother us a bit) at CC. :thumbsup2

Did you get the video and photos of the dolphin encounter? We have watched it SO many times since being home. They are both now two of our "priceless" souvies. :goodvibes

Looking forward to the rest of your report.

Well, now that I am refreshed I can give you some more details. By the way, I just read on the main board about the crew member who was arrested for indecent exposure. That was our cruise!! I never heard or saw anything unusual. That totally shocked me. How sad.

Anyway, on Tuesday I woke up at 6:30 again. (Don't know why I just couldn't seem to sleep late on the ship.) I watched the sun rise as we pulled into Castaway Cay. I took more pictures. It was really beautiful. We all got going in short order and headed to the buffet for breakfast again. I know that they serve breakfast in some of the restaurants too, but we really liked eating out on deck. We made our way to the Promenad lounge to meet for the snorkeling excursion. That was a blast!! My daughter was less aprehensive for this than the dolphin experience. She held my hand and did well. We were on the reef for an hour and I took lots of pictures with my underwater disposable. I'm curious to see how those turn out. I'm not hopeful. It's hard to take pictures with a child hanging onto you! We got back to shore right around lunch time and headed right to Cookies. I know a lot of people talked aobut taking food in a cooler from the ship, but I honestly don't know why. There was plenty to eat and a good variety. We were perfectly happy. We had plenty of water to drink too. (I saw no need to purchase water before boarding the ship. Unless you just can't stand the taste of the ship water. I found it to be fine.) Our parasailing excursion was cancelled (bummer!) due to weather, so my husband took my son kayaking while I took my daughter to the beach. She had a great time playing in the water and building sand castles and I enjoyed sitting in the water and relaxing. Unfortunately, my husband lost his KTTW card and driver's license when his kayak overturned. But we had no trouble getting back on the ship as they stopped checking id's. See, right around 2:30 the skies started to look very ominous so everyone started making their way back to the ship. We we were in line to get on when the winds suddenly kicked up and the skies opened up!! It was raining sideways and we were getting pelted with hail. My kids started screaming that the rain hurt. They opened a second gangway and everyone just started running to get onto the ship. We were laughing once we got onto the ship. Needless to say, we were soaked. As it turns out, we were experiencing some of the outter bands of Ernesto. It was pretty impressive. We set sail around 4:45. We got showered and changed and got the kids some dinner at Pluto's. Tonight was Palo for us. So we checked the kids into Oceaneer's and went up. We were half an hour early for our reservation, but they sat us right away. Herbert was our server and he was fantastic. I can't recommend Palo enough. I'm Italian, so I wasn't overly excited about eating Italian food, since I cook it all the time, but this was exquisite! We had fried calamari and buffalo mozzarella to start and Herbert brought us a cold antipasto anyway. Then I had the filet mignon which was excellent and my husband had stuffed chicken breast. Then for dessert, we had chocolate souffle and tiramisu, and Herbert brought us the pana cotta, as well as an after dinner apertif that was made with lemon sherbet and limoncello I believe. It was all amazing from the preparation, to the presentation, service, etc. It was one of the best meals we've ever had.

Afterwards, we took a little stroll, then went to get the kids to see the Golden Mickeys. My son wanted to stay in the club, so we took my daughter to the show. What a wonderful show! My daughter got so excited each time a new character came onstage. We really loved it. After that, we went to pick up my son and go get out of our dressy clothes to go to the pirate party. By this time the kids were already pretty tired, so the party was a short event for us. We all loved Mickey riding the zip line from one stack to the other and the fireworks were great. We made a quick exit, grabbed some desserts for the kids off the buffet and headed back to the room. My daughter was falling asleep on her feet. I must say, that it is very crowded at the party, and anyone with small children should be prepared that unless you are right up front, your kids won't get to see much. If you really want them to see the stage, go to deck 10. It's really impractical to ask hundreds of adults to move so that junior can see. We were standing about 3/4 of the way back from the stage, and my kids couldn't see much, which we expected. But there were people behind us asking us to move so their kids could see. Well, that's just silly. There were tons of people in front of us too, where were we supposed to go? Anyway...

The captain told us that he would be looking for clear skies and calmer waters so that we would have a good sea day on Wednesday and that's exactly what we got! I'll continue with our sea day a little later. (Still trying to figure out posting pictures.)

Great report!!!! Thanks for sharing!! A little scary about the worker on the ship!! Glad you didn't see anything!!

We got the video, but not the pictures. It gets really expensive after a while, so we had to sacrifice some things. It broke my heart to give up some of the pictures at Shutters as well, but I think we got the best shots. I wish they would do DVD's instead of VHS. At some point we are going to get it transferred.

Great Report!! We just got off the 4 day Wonder the week before you. We had such a great time.

Looks like you lucked out with your weather (especially with Ernesto hanging around).

Can't wait to hear more.

I'm loving your report so far, can't wait to hear more! Our land/sea trip is in Feb. and we're planning on doing the dolphin excursion also, and i was wondering if you booked it on your own or through Disney? I was going to book on my own as I've read that it's a little cheaper and was wondering if I did that ,,do I still go to the meet beforehand. Thanks for your help .. in advance.

Thanks for sharing your trip

looking forward to seeing some photos

We booked through Disney. I have no idea about the difference in price, what I do know is that the dolphin encounter through Disney does not include actually swimming with the dolphins. If you want that excursion, you have to book it on your own. You can go to the Dolphin Encounters website to do that. It's the same place. I assume that if you do book it separately they will let you know about transportation. The only thing to be aware of is that if you are late returning to the ship on a non-Disney excursion, they won't wait for you. If you are on an excursion booked through Disney, they know that you are still out and will wait.

Well, I hope you like those pictures. It's my first time with a digital camera. I really prefer my 35mm SLR, but my husband didn't want to have to carry it around. I have to say, that it was much easier carrying that tiny digital, though I felt a little restricted in what I could do with it. Overall though, I was pleased with the quality of the pictures.

So, the captain came through and found us clear skies for our at sea day. It was a beautiful day. We again went to breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet. A crew member who was clearing tables, came over and started talking to my kids in Donald Duck speak. Well, my husband does a decent Donald Duck too, so the two of them proceeded to have a conversation in DD speak. It was hysterical. And of course, the video camera was back at the room. Doesn't it just figure! I took my daughter for her appointment to get her hair wrapped. It came out really good and she was thrilled. Then we spent the whole morning by the Mickey pool. I popped down to Shutters to make some more selections and my husband attended the debarkation talk. We got my daughter something from Pluto's and brought it with us to the lunch buffet. (She didn't want anything on the buffet.) The buffet was wonderful. We were very happy with the sushi and many other offerings. After lunch we took the kids to the club and we attended the martini tasting. It was great fun. We were given five 2oz. martinis to taste. I'm not crazy about gin which was the first one. The second was a dirty martini which was vodka and olive juice. Yuck! The last three I really loved, but they were probably not what most people would call a martini. After the tasting we got the kids and everyone got showered and dressed to get ready for the "Graduation" and dinner. By this point we were starting to feel bummed since we were in the home stretch of our vacation. The Graduation Ceremony is adorable. All of the kids process into the theater wearing t-shirts that they get to keep and graduation caps with Mickey ears. Mickey and Minnie come on to confer the "degree" and then they process out. It's really cute and a great photo op for parents. Let me just say, that unfortunately there were some parents down front who seemed to think that they were the only people there with kids on the stage. They were in the first 3-4 rows and felt it necessary to stand and block everyone else's view until every child was onstage. Many parents were yelling at them to sit down, but they ignored the requests. As a result, we got no pictures or video of our children. So let me just say to anyone who feels the need to stand, it is a theater with seating configured so that everyone can see the stage. There is no need to stand. Please do not ruin it for everyone sitting behind you. OK, I will get off my soapbox now.
So, we picked up our kids and had just enough time to take the Mickey and Minne photo that I posted before our final dinner at Triton's. This was our favorite restaurant, other than Palo's. It's just beautiful in there and we also loved the menu. We had these dumpling appetizers that were incredible. I had lobster with shrimp risotto and my husband had the Delmonico steak. They brought a birthday cake for my son and it was lovely. We took pictures with our servers and gave hugs all around and were told that we would be having breakfast in Triton's in the morning at the same table at 7:15. So we were happy that we would be seeing our servers one more time. By the way, we had a table with just the four of us for our rotation. We were surprised because we assumed that we would be sharing a table with another family. It didn't matter one way or the other, we just didn't expect it.
After dinner we took my son to the club, (he didn't want to attend the show again) and took my daughter to the last show. I was feeling very hot and we stopped by the bar outside the theater to say "Hello" to Galina, the bartender that we had become friendly with, and she told me that I was hot because I was getting seasick. She gave me some Ginger ale. The ship was rocking pretty well at this point as we were heading back towards Florida and into the rough seas that Ernesto had churned up. The swells were amazing. They ended up roping off all of the port side doors because of high winds. (In fact, our stateroom was on the portside, and when we got back to the room we opened our veranda door to look at the sea, and the wind nearly blew us across the room. The curtains were blowing up to the ceiling. We were laughing so hard! We didn't do that again!) Anyway, the show was wonderful. As I said before, I loved Peter Pan. He was so full of energy. Am I the only person who welled up a little bit? We really loved it. If you have not done this cruise before, you really must see the shows. They are wonderful. After the show we collected our son and packed for the morning. You have to have your luggage ready outside your room by 11pm. This made us a little crazy because we were kind of in a packing frenzy. It was also really depressing. After we finished, we took a last walk around the deck. (Yes, in the wind. It was kind of neat.) The next morning we got our last Mickey wake-up call and got ready to go to breakfast. It was kind of weird, there was such a different mood as we went into Triton's. It was so subdued. After breakfast we had our last hugs with our servers and I was tearing up. It really felt as if they had become family for a few days. Rowena had made origami animals for my kids each night and both she and Isac made us feel so special.
Again the process of transferring to the airport is really easy if you booked the package through Disney. We just went to the colored zone where our luggage would be, took our luggage through security, then checked it at the US air desk outside.

So there it is. If anyone has questions, I'll be happy to answer them if I can. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and really want to do it again sometime.

What a great trip report. We are going on a four night December 10,2006. We are absolutely beside ourselves. We are going to the parks for four nights before the cruise also. We cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is one scary shot of the Wonder with the storm clouds......yikes.

Hey, the Wonder's Jack Sparrow actually smiles!!!!! The Jack Sparrow on the Magic doesn't show his teeth. Hmmmmm....now we can compare the two Jack Sparrows.

Great trip report....
