Attraction effects Disney installed but doesn't use ( w/pics if possible )

We were at Lights, Motor, Action last week. They did the stunt with the jet ski. It is always a great show.

Oh, that's so good to know! We went to some shows over a few different trips where they didn't do it at all, so I figured they had done away with it. Maybe it's seasonal? Anyway, sorry for posting bad information on this.

"When RnR first opened, didn't the semi truck dart out at you or have his headlights off and turned them on just as it seemed you were about to hit head on?"

Toward the end of the ride there is a sign that says "Watch for oncoming traffic" Originally as you entered that area a set of headlights came at you with horns honking. Hasn't been there in a while and my wife says it never was, but I definitely remember it too.

The Semi you are describing was on TEST TRACK....but not on my last visit 2/09.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Agree and disagree...It is indeed on Test Track. It was working just fine in March of this year. Maybe they couldn't afford diesel for a while there.:rotfl:

Trivia: The driver of the semi is a cardboard cutout of none other than Lyndon Johnson wearing sunglasses and a hat. Check it out on your next ride.

I missed the wild west scene and hadn't seen it since late 2005.... but in January this year it was back with fire and everything!! :)

How about this one? This is also at the GMR. The first few years that MGM was open, your cars would split into two parts with your own tour guide. The first two would go through the gangster scene where your car was hijacked by the gangster. The last two cars would stay behind and have that experience. The first two would pass through to the wild west scene where the bank was being robbed and that robber would hijack the car. You can see the fire damage to the bank in the corner around the windows are all scorched because someone shoots or blows up the bank and it catches fire. I remember it very well because the heat from the fire was intense.

Maybe they stopped it because of the heat or they only do it when the crowds get really huge.

If anyone out there knows the reason why they stopped the bank robbery part and/or if anyone out there remembers it like me please be sure to answer.

Ok.. Ive made it through the whole thread....

I'm glad someone else mentioned the Golden Girls house on the Backlot Tour.. Im so mad they dont have it anymore. They needed the room for the stunt show

Where is it now, did they destroy it?? *sad*

also, something that wasnt mentioned.. Last September when we watched Fantasmic... there was no boat with steamboat willie driving the boat:confused3 I was so excited to show my friend who was visiting for the first time, and NO BOAT =[

All the characters came out, but they were running around/dancing..whatever in front of the mountain. Maybe it was broken thar night :confused3

NO BOAT!!???!!! I hope that was just a one time event. Fantasmic is my favorite show at Disney World and I would hate to see the boat of characters not be there. Can anyone confirm or update?

DJ Disney Kid - Thanks for bringing this thread back. I had never seen it before. :thumbsup2

Was at Fantasmic a few weeks ago. The boat still works, must have been a technical glitch.

The 'Golden Girls' house is under Lights Motor Action.

Did the EE question get answered?

Perhaps this will help

Great thread - I have really enjoyed reading it, esp since we have taken a few trips recently with our kids and my prior trips were quite a while ago.. Recently, there were rides where I felt like something else was supposed to happen (I was moving out of the way of the JC spitting hippos and they didn't spit, I was ducking expecting the pterodactyl to come at us on Dinosaur, etc...) and when it didn't I thought I was just crazy (of course so did DH when I would mention the thing that I thought was missing!)
However, I have to say that I have never seen that bird on EE or the smoke rings in Winnie the Pooh???

I've never seen what you're talking about but I remember reading somewhere about "Beastly Kingdome" and how the area where Camp Minnie Mickey is was supposed to be a land of mythical creatures to go with the other parts of the park; one land for creatures still living, ones who were living but are now extinct and then beastly kingdome (spelt in olde english) was to be the land of animals that never were truly alive except for in myths and fairy tales (like the dragon and unicorns, centuars etc)

Hope that helps!

This is off topic but thought this would be an interesting fact to share. A friends of mine who is a CM told me that Dueling Dragons in Islands of Adventure was created by a Disney Imagineer and was then sold to Universal.

It didn't make sense why they would sell such a great idea, but I guess they just didn't need it. That ride always seemed out of place there. It's soooo well themed. Just look at Dueling Dragon's queue area vs the other major coaster The Hulk's Queue area. I'm sorry but a building painted green is not a theme.

That story is almost correct. It was a Disney Imagineer who designed Dueling Dragons as it was supposed to be something going into AK for Beastly Kingdom, but then Disney was letting go of Imagineers at the time and they migrated to Universal, taking with them the idea.

Also, I saw the Winnie the Pooh smoke ring for the first time last year. Everyone in the car was stunned as it puffed out and made a perfect circle around my nephews face. All I remember is we all saw this smoke ring come out and we slowly followed it with our eyes all at the same time as it went right into his face. It was perfect! :lmao:

Don't know if it has been mentioned but on Splas Mtn. there's a scene after Brer Bear gets caught in his own trap and Brer Fox is fussing at him. On the left as you make the corner Brer Rabbit used to jump up from behin some bushes and taunt them (can't remember what he said exactly) but he would hop a few times, go back down and reset. Last time I rode he was still there if you look closely you can see the top of his head but he doesn't hop any more. I find Splash Mtn. has several effects that come and go though.

When EE first opened, there was either an eagle or hawk that came up with the train reached it's highest peak before going backwards. I haven't seen this in a long time.

Disney has once again fixed the mist on top of Everest! Someone posted a small video of it last week: http://www.flickr.com/photos/disneydena/2498686955/

I know this thread is old but I think some of the newcomers since 2007 might enjoy it. :thumbsup2
DJ Disney Kid, you rock so hard! Thanks for bringing this thread back up - never saw it the first time around and it was entertaining. Also, totally worth it to see the mist on Everest, plus you answered every question like I would have! No need to quote now...except

That's hilarious. I've noticed the cutout, but I've never been able to tell who it was. Thanks for the trivia!

Great thread!

Fantasmic didn't have the boat out when we saw it in September.

Winnie the Pooh-sometimes I saw the puff of smoke, other times it wasn't working. I spent a lot of time on this ride (It was my niece's favorite ride).

I remember the fire breathing dragon at AK, I sure hope I have a picture of it! I'll have to look and see in the morning.

The truck never has "darted out," AFAIK.
It is simply and "lights and air horn" effect on a stationary truck body.
But, your car comes up on the truck from around a hairpin curve and the truck effects, headlights and horn, are activated at that point and timed to startle you.

(The "LBJ" driver is frosting on the cake. ;))

Have not read the entire thread so not sure if this has been mentioned.

Back in the mid -eighties I remember seeing characters water skiing around the seven seas lagoon including goofy and donald duck. In fact when we were at river country donald duck skied right up on the beach and entertained the guests.

Does anyone remember this and have any pictures?

I guess I never thought of it as stationary, but now that you mention it, I guess it could be true. Whatever, it sure seems like it's coming at you.

I only remember it on post cards and promotional advertisements. I never saw it actually happen. I would suspect that one fall off the ski's and the effect is pretty much ruined, and dangerous.

I remember this from when I was a kid! I will look through our old pictures and see if we have a shot of it :)

New York Daily! The news boy that got sent to the corner (turned away from the ride guests in SSE. I guess it wasn't worth fixing his animatronics. At least that is the way he was when we visited last year. Any updates on the poor lad?
