I have never visited the FW Resort and would like your most important piece of advice...a tip, comment, or learning experience that you can't find in a book!! We will be staying in the cabins, November 2001 with 3 children ages 6, 3 and 3.

Take some time to slow down and enjoy FW, from the white sand beach to the nightly campfire and movies. FW offers many wonderful family activities that are sometimes overlooked in the rush to get to the parks.

Have Fun!

Visit the above site for lots of first person information and pictures. My tip is to rent a golf cart or at least bring a car for transportation to the parks. It is the only downside to FW.

While I wouldn't consider myself an expert, I will say we loved FW. We just returned last week. It was our first time at FW and we would recommend it to anyone.

Only complaint is that you will be riding buses a lot. No direct buses except to AK and Blizzard Beach. The Chip/Dale buses are internal and run on a regular basis. I would recommend that you request a loop near a bus stop it makes it a lot easier especially with children. We were in 2600s.

If you are driving pack food. You have a kitchen (complete) available to you and it is nice to come back and be able to eat real food.

There are many family activities as someone already said. Take part in as many as you can. Trails End Buffeteria is a good place to eat especially the breakfast buffet.

To me the nicest thing was leaving the noise and crowds of the parks behind and going to FW where you would see animals, beautiful natural settings and wake up to quiet!!!

Enjoy!! I am jealous. I wish we were going back in November.! :)

I noticed someone mentioned to you renting a golf cart which is a great idea. We've been to FW several times but this last time we rented a golf cart from an outside company (much cheaper than FW!!) It worked out great for us because we never had to step foot on a bus and the kids absolutely loved driving around in it. We rented from Golf Cart Enterprises, which I found out about on these boards. I'm sure if you do a search you'll find out all the info. you need for it. Also I packed my own laundry detergent, dryer sheets and stain remover(laundry there does not provide those last two), so that I could do laundry half way through the trip and pack half as much (yeah, right). It's great at FW, just throw in some laundry and head right out the door to the pool with the kids. If you have a car, I would recommend getting your groceries from the Wal-mart on 192 (another great tip from these boards). The stores at FW are really expensive. Also, just take the time to enjoy it. We love FW, especially going down to the beach at night to watch the fireworks. It's a wonderful place for the kids, ours love it. Make sure to eat at least once at Trail's End Buffet--it's delicious!! Have a great time, we just got back and I'm already jealous ;)

...everything that FW has to experience! Try Hoop de Doo Review...Backyard BBQ (if it's offered now), eat at Trail's End (gotta try the ribs at dinner!)-- this is only a partial list of things to do there. Have fun! We're going to FW again within a few weeks and can't wait!!!! :) :D :)

If you plan to cook some of your meals, keep in mind the Ft Wilderness trading posts don't carry the same wide selection of foods you can find offsite in a supermarket. Not that'll you'll starve if you can't get out of the campgrounds and buy there. The selections are just the "basics" at convienence store prices. There's a 24 hour Goodings supermarket in the Crossroads Shopping Center near Downtown Disney but the prices there are a bit touristy. Further offsite there are markets with "normal prices". Can someone help with the directions on those? My mind just drew a blank this moment. :(

If you plan to cook any meals and have room to pack it, bring a crockpot. You can put something in in the morning and it willo be done when you return with very little left to do for dinner. It will be ready for you when you return to the cabin. We have camped at FW several times but took one for the first time on our last trip. We will never go without it again.
