Hi! I was wondering if anyone ever "booked" being a flag family ahead of time at WLR. We'll be down there for Veteran's Day 2007 and it would be such a surprise and special moment for my husband, who served in Saudi during Desert Storm, if I could get us on the list during our stay. I'm afraid that if we do it when we get down there, all of the days will already be booked up.

Any suggestions?

Flag Family is an on-site only first come, first served deal. However, in your case I'd call them and see if they'll make an exception.

You could try, but my experience is you have to physically be at the concierge desk to get it, so unless you are arriving long before 11/11, you won't get that special day. When we checked in on 6/5, the earliest they had was 6/15.

1) No advance ressies for Flag Family.
2) There would be just too many folks calling.
3) Have heard all the reasons
. . . special event for my father, the Civil War vet
. . . special event for my father, the vet
. . . special event for my father, the Vietnam vet
. . . special event for my father, the WWII vet
. . . special event for my father, the Desert Storm vet
. . . special event for my father, the bad marriage vet
. . . special event for my father, the terrible kids vet
. . . special event for my father, just because
. . . special event for my father, since he is so great

4) You can imagine all the other reasons.
5) For this reason, you register at the Concierge or Front Desk at check-in.
6) This way, it is fair to all.
7) How would YOU feel if your special father was ousted by another special father.

NOTE: Feel free to substitute brother, son, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, mother, grandparent, other other relative/friend for the term "father" above.

I called the WLR yesterday and spoke with a very nice phone rep who hooked me up with the woman who occasionally stands in for Ranger Stan when he's not available. She told me that they would definitely work with me once I arrived, and to mention her name and our discussion. So for what it's worth, I've got her name and we'll see where it gets us in November. My hope is that it won't be such a busy time of year but with it being Jersey Week, soap star weekend and I think the wine festival, who knows...

And Rusty, thanks for the chuckle but I hope you don't misunderstand my intention. I'm not trying to skirt around whatever the rules are for being a flag family because "my whoever is more special than someone else's whoever" (I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to bump a Civil War Vet :)). I was just curious if anyone had ever reserved a spot ahead of time (there's not a lot written about flag families in my guide book or on the Disney site). If so, then I would have tried as well so long as it was within Disney's rules. I've learned on so many occasions that while you may not always get what you ask for, you'll never get what you don't ask for, right?
