I have a question for very recent Contemporary visitors. Do you think the new DVC Towers will obstruct the Bay Lake Views? We have a reservation in October and having seen recent pictures of the construction, I am getting worried my view may now be obstructed. I would really appreciate any input I could get while it is still early enough to change my reservation if need be.

thanks in advance:)

We just returned from CR BL view and there is no obstruction what so ever. The construction is going on all day, but never bothered us wheter in the room or at the pool.

I must say though, that I do not see the symmetry between the CR tower, Garden wing and the new Kingdom Towers. I guess I'll just have to get used to the change - pretty hard for me though as I have so many memories at CR and the old north wing.

These were taking on March 14th...

This was taken on 3/11 but will show you the construction in relation to the tower rooms... you'll notice it's completely to the left of the CR.

I have a feeling this is only the first phase. I'll bet after these sell out, they'll tear down the other wing and build the same structure again.

No problem!

I'm very much a visual person and sometimes it's really hard to understand (or express) a resort aspect without visual. Here's another picture but it makes the construction look closer and almost "infront" of the tower... so it's slightly decieving. It's just the angle as I was trying to frame the Castle :ssst:

If the South Garden Wing was not renovated I would agree with you, however because it was renovated I don't see it happening. Plus since it's hard enough to get any type of room at the Contemporary because they sell out months in advance and because of conventions, adding another DVC building would make it even worse with the loss of rooms in the South Garden Wing. So I think the Kingdom Towers where they are being built now is enough and another DVC building should not be added on.

If they build another tower where the south wing is there is nothing that states it has to be all for DVC. There are a few resorts that are mixed use so this could be one as well. It also hasn't been stated how much of the Kingdom Tower is for DVC. It could easily be half and half.

So has DVC actually been confirmed by Disney? I keep reading the posts assuming it will be a vacation club building, but I haven't seen anything directly from Disney.

As much as I love the CR, I don't think I would buy in to a DVC at this new tower. I just don't think it fits. JMO

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

No, it's not been confirmed by Disney or DVC.

There have been rumors circulating over the last several months that Disney does plan to eventually demolish the south wing and replace it with another 15 to 16 floor tower. The south tower would house both DVC units and standard resort hotel rooms.

Wonder if even Disney knows there is construction going on...they dont seem to know anything else! lol !!!!

God I hope not.

The architecture on the one they are building now is just non-descript and really not great at all.

Having a matching tower wouldn't do anything to add to the resort, in fact I think the first one is going to hurt the look to begin with.

I agree.....CR is an icon...the whole landscape of this area will never be the same.

I totally agree, the completely different shapes of the buildings gives a new meaning to "Concrete Jungle". I wish they had just left well enough alone.

I still say I hope the rumour that crazy4wdw posted is not true because it would mean DVC taking up a lot more space at the Contemporary, when they had to tear down a whole Garden Wing to accomodate the Kingdom Towers. If WDW tears down the South Garden Wing it will make rooms on both sides in the Tower a lot harder to get because they lost both Garden Wing buildings since most of the rooms in the Kingdom Towers will be taken up by DVC members. I know anyone could make reservations there threw CRO or rent DVC points from other members, however I would think they would only have a limited number of rooms.

I have never seriously considered DVC ownership but would def. buy DVC CR. I think when they open up the points, they will sell fast. I just hope they don't open up the points too soon because I need to pay down my house. I would never consider financing the points, I don't see how you can win that way, if you add the maintenance fee and the interest.
