For those of you brewing loose leaf teas. What do you do with the brewed leaves after?? Throw them away??? I'm hooked on Teavana teas now, but theres got to be more uses for the brewed tea leaves. Whats your favorite teas??
Im enjoying the Green Mint and Tiramisu Treviso red tea.

my favorite Teavana right now is Oolong Jasmine!

I just throw out the tea leaves, etc.....but if someone can suggest something better, I would love to hear it!!!:)

:wizard:

Are you talking about after the first use or in general? Tea leaves can be used for more then one brew. When we're done the go in the trash or down the garbage disposal (we do not have a compost unit).

Nope. I throw them out. My favorite from Teavana is Earl Grey Creme. I also love the straight peppermint tea. I also like the loose leaf Lady Grey from Twinings.

BTW -- not sure if you have the neat teacup from Teavana, but I love, love mine. You just put tea in it, pour water in, and then when it's steeped, you put the cup on top of your mug -- it's self-straining.

Never had any of their teas but I have their tea maker, which I love. Favorite teas, hmmm..... probably the loose leaf mad hatter tea from disney :thumbsup2 and prickly pear :drinking1 My favorite of all time was twinings tastes of summer (not loose leaf), so good but they discontinued it:sad2: And yes, I just throw away they tea after I've brewed it.

Where do you buy these teas?

I've never tried 1. I have yet to be in any store that actually sells loose-leaf tea. And yet I know places that sell the balls to use them with:confused3

You can buy Tea online, in higher end grocery stores, places like Teavana, etc.

I would not recommend using a tea-ball with tea though, it tends to not allow as much free movement of the tea, although many people swear by them.

You can compost used tea leaves. An unused empty teabag can serve as an emergency substitute for cheese cloth when making a bouquet garni for cooking, just tie it together with some kitchen string. Used cooled teabags also make excellent compresses for tired eyes--elevate your feet, shut your eyes, and place a drained cooled teabag on each eye for 5 minutes. Very refreshing!
Also, you can substitute strong cold tea for vinegar when you are washing windows, etc.

I use them two or three times, and then toss them. I do have one of those strainers though . It's my favorite!

I've been trying to get ymself off of soda for a while, so I've been stashing up on teas. There's a local Tea place in Fullerton that is wonderful and I get loose leaf teas there, and there's a Teavana about an hour away. I stopped in there a few weeks ago, and bought a Chai Mate blend. Soooo good and chocolate-y... In fact, talking about it makes me want some now...

I don't know any other tea drinkers in my circle of family or friends so I know you will appreciate it when I tell you this....

When I went to Japan last year I got a tin of loose green tea for myself to take back home with me. It is the tastiest green tea I have ever had in my life, it is to die for. I've been savoring it and have a couple of pots left to brew if I'm lucky. I'm going back again this year so I am going to go back to the place where I got it and stock up, yes it was Expensive, but I never want to run out of it again.....ever. It's right up there on the top of my list of my favorite things in life! Oh, and I didn't make it to Tokyo Disney last year and it's at the top of my list this year, I can't wait to go.

Anyone else been to Japan? If so what other treasures am I missing? DH couldn't get past their ice cream. They put so much effort into making it I think he would have cared less if that is what his total diet consisted of for the entire trip. He ate it for 3 meals a day and then some, I've never seen him so happy before all he could talk about was the ice cream LOL.

Getting back to the question as to what I do with the leaves I stare at them after I use them and think of ways I could make the green tea ice cream with them but I doubt there is any way to make it like they do so they go into the trash, I feel like I'm missing out on something big every time I dump them.

So what do you use if you don't use the tea ball?

Personally I don't like most bagged teas, but I have a fondness for Mint teas.

I love Teavana's sweet cranberry tea. They're sold out online right now, but I'm hoping they'll get some in stock soon. Sooooo good! :goodvibes

I only use loose tea. I found that it has a nicer taste to it. I usually compost my tea leaves but if you have roses, they love tea leaves. I will put them in my garden as well.

I didn't know Twinings made loose leaf tea... where do you buy it?? I love Lady Grey. (But hate Earl Grey... weird.)

My favorite from Teavana is Peppermint and I also love the Tahitian Limeade. Yummers. I usually buy a cup of something new when I go and that way I keep track of what I like/don't like. Too expensive to buy something that I hate.

And yeah, I just throw the leaves away when I'm done.

Twinings' website - http://www.twiningsusa.com/. Bagged tea is cheaper (or at least the same price) as the store. If you sign up for "Tea-Mail" notifications, they'll send discount codes (usually 20% off). I save up and place big orders a couple of times a year, using the code.

I only brew loose leaf tea and I get mine from Twinings and Adagio.

I brew mine in a press pot. It gives the leaves plenty of room to expand and makes a great cup of tea. And when I am done I just throw the used leaves in the garbage. I find they tend to clog my disposal and if you reuse them the tea doesn't taste as good.
