Ok - this is a very minor question to throw out and entails very little forthought or descisions... But ....

As I continue to "nest" and getthe house ready for Baby#3 to arrive, I have run into a Decorating issue. Well, not really and issue, I have just run out of ideas...We have a big, antique dining room table that has been in my husbands family for years. It has 8 chairs arounds and is considerably big and a dominate piece of furnature in our home.

I have placed an old antique wooden plumbers box (aka tool box) in the centre of the tabel, I just dont know what to put in it! At Christmas time I put greenery, holly springs and different length candles in it. In the spring I add flowers that I have bought until its time to plant. But I am stumped... Though about onld knitting spools/spindles and rag balls, but the sides of the box are too deep....

I have tried tooking online and in Country Living ore Country Home, but have had no luck seeing anything similar....

Any ideas out there? :surfweb:

Tall candles.

Dried flowers.

Oh, I thought of something else. Do you use placemats? I use handwoven ones. You could roll them up and place them in the holes rolled up.... Do you know what I mean? Until time to use them, or as extras.

Great idea - Tall candles is just what I will do - maybe with some fall leave springs or prim berry garland. I think I will shop a bit tomorrow and see what I can find .... any other ideas out there?? :rolleyes1

Sounds like something I saw at Boatwright's at Disney. You could put mason jars in the toolbox and fill them with cutlery (knives, forks, spoons). They could be decorative or practical. That along with rolled up napkins and/or placemats and your decorating problem is solved. At least until you think up something else creative.

I like the ideas about using it for cutlery, and table wear. I have a similar box on my table and I have used it for oil, vinegar, salt and pepper dispensers. It helps keep things you use organized on the table.

But, if you like the idea of the yarn, have you thought about putting foam or something in the bottom of the box to raise your display up to the proper height? That's a trick I use all the time. Just put enough foam in the bottom to raise your display up and cover the foam with a nice fabric, or moss if you're doing a floral arrangement.

For the fall, you could put small pumpkins, gourds (either real or artificial) and some mums in small pots nestled among some spanish moss.....

I would use those old spools you can find at the antique stores...you know the longer (taller) ones and some med size and use several in the middle for pedastals for candles. Then I would wind some barberry twine around it and fill in with fall leafs. Finally put some pumpkins and gourds around. Real or fake. They make some real good artificial pumpkins and gourds now.

I really like these ideas especially! Glad I put a little bump in on this thread this evening! I knew I would get some great ideas from my fellow DIS'ers!

The Utencils and S&P ideas are great too - but I can just see DS3 getting into the forks and knives on a daily basis - and we usually eat at the island in the kitchen most evenings! As horrible as that is - its just far easier with the busy life we all lead these days - I am sure I am not alone. Better than in front of the ****-tube I guess!!?? Thanks again -

Any more ideas out there??
