We leave this Friday the 13th for OKW for 10 nights. First time over MLK week. Can anyone tell me what to expect re: crowds???

Another DVCer friend was trying to book ANY non DVC resort with points for next week ( he can only use his leftover points at a non DVC resort )and everything is booked. Should I be nervous?

We went for 12 days in Janu 2003 and hit MLK weekend while we were there. We didn't notice any unusual crowds until MLK day itself. Waits were 90 minutes on top rides etc but all was well the Sat and Sun before and all was well the day after. Just avoid any park with EMH on Monday and you should make out ok :)

Last year MLK weekend coincided with Orlando's largest convention ever. (The Homebuilders, which are back in 2006; attendance was up in 2005 due to the 2004 hurricanes, so 2006 is expected to be even bigger.) I don't know if the dates fall over MLK this year.

Frankly, I didn't see too much impact, with the exception of dinner Saturday night. There were NO full service restaurants reportedly taking reservations, as the conventioneers had booked pretty much everything.

But with most conventions, they were in meetings all day and only came back in the evenings.

The National Homebuilder's Convention is the 11-14 this year in Orlando. MLK day is the 16th. The weekend could be pretty busy I would think. Not sure if they are at Disney hotels or not, since I wasn't able to log into their website without a password, but many will likely travel with families who will be in the parks while spouses are at meetings.

Maybe because it is the second year in a row of being in Orlando, it won't be as busy as last year. I used to work for the local builder's association and the conventions would rotate locations every year, but only a few cities are big enough to host.

MK was packed on Sat. night of MLK weekend in 2003. Other than that it was a very uncrowed time. We were able to walk on most rides. Our longest wait was at the Bakery in France!!!!

I would suspect the MK to be crowded on most any Sat. night. That being said, our family has done MLK weekend for the past four or five years (except this year) :( . We have never encountered any real crowd problems. We do avoid the parks on Monday, however.

Once the long weekend is over the crowds will go down noticibly on Tuesday.
