Attention Iphone users!

A highlight of the article above:
According to Sam Biddle, an editor with Gizmodo, "My entire personal and professional life -- documented by a phone I didn't know was also a tracking device. It's all accessible -- where I've been, and when. I don't really have anything to hide, which is why I don't mind sharing the map. But it's just not right to have no choice in the matter; I don't want this information bouncing around in my pocket with me."

Interesting.

It really does not surprise me at all.

As a librarian, we are very careful to protect patron privacy. I am astounded that most people seem not to care.

I am also surprised how many people freely tell people where they are by posting their locations with Foursquare and Gowalla.

This freaks me out a lot, especially when they are saying they are home and I can look at a map and find out exactly where that person lives.

There are far too many crazies out there for me to be sharing where I am at every moment of the day and when my house is empty for that matter.

Apple has now said this is a bug. It is a cache that should be routinely wiped, but due to the bug it was not.

Should be fixed next update.

This is the least of the the security problems with IoS devices. How about the apps that turn on your Microphone without you knowing.

or

Every time you use Google maps or Eticket or anything that uses the Google maps API, it sends your location information and speed so that Google can use it for their traffic information.

I personally have a rule about these two apps. I only "check in" after I get in the car to leave where ever I am. If I'm at WDW or DLR though, I might not do the same. It depends. I never check in at home. That's dangerous.

Interesting. I have not had personal experience with the "I am here" apps other than reading them on Facebook. I find them slightly annoying, do I really care about every place a person has been during the day? Check in - breakfast - bathroom - hardware store - drugstore - restaurant - school church - bed, etc.

I thought those check in apps were a way to announce "I am here. Join me".
Seems like, Nikki, you are using it as a diary (good for your personal safety) at home, but at WDW you are might post your whereabouts hoping to be found by felow Disney peeps.
