Attention Germ Phobes.........

Well I am proud to report that on our 6 night vacation I didn't use a single lysol wipe or a drop of purel, used hotel provided linens unaltered (even the comforter!!) and guess what....not a single sniffle or unexpected trip to the toilet. Take your vitamins and get adequate rest and you'll be fine. :)

Same here (except we didn't take vitamins, and only got the minimum required rest).

We just got back, didn't see a single sign of the stomach virus. Brought, but didn't use Purell. I even went down with the remnants of a cold and came back healthier!!! I also believe in building up immunity. Since my dd11's first two years, where we both caught EVERYTHING, she's had strep once (me too), a stomach bug once (me twice), and cold/fever symptoms maybe once a year for a day. We just don't catch much. Thankfully. I have to admit that these boards managed to scare me into buying my first ever bottle of Purell, but it came back unopened.

I think half the time we get sick because we are 'too clean", and over use the sanitizers and antibiotics..Think about it 20 yrs ago hand sanitizer didn't exist and you didn't have half the amount of drug resistant infections you have today.Moderation people, that is why you have an immune system.( well most people have an immune system but that is a different story):goodvibes

Thank you. THAT is the point I was trying to make - you know how to say things much more clearly than I do!

I just hate to throw up!!! I'd rather have diarrhea for a week straight all day long then to throw up once!

A week of diarrhea may land you in the hospital for an IV (where, btw, a host of germs reside)

On the other hand, a single puke can be quite cathartic and set everything right as rain ;)

You listed quite an energy expenditure; I would worry your anxiety alone would lower your resistance!

There are basic rules of thumb in prevention but there is a theory that we are scrubbing ourselves sick. I'd be smart about things when possible but no to the point where it interrupts my life or the sanity of those around me :lmao:

Good grief. That is kooky. :rotfl:

I doubt you'd find many people who would agree with you, given the choices you list.

David

I guess I'm kooky, too! :) I would take the diarrhea for a week. It's sad, I know, but that's how much I hate to throw up. Yuck!

Oh gosh, I forgot to add i bring sheets and blankets too!:rotfl:
Thank goodness for the Owners Locker, it will be a life saver for my future trips! No more lugging all the stuff back and forth!

Hope someone doesn't sneak in & take a nap on your blankets:rotfl:

It's how all the "super bugs" developed in hospitals......

I don't do a thing to prevent germs aside from wash my hands frequently. I walk barefoot in hotel rooms (although I prefer my LL Bean slippers! :lovestruc ), lie on the comforter, touch things in the park, drink from water fountains, high five strangers.... you name it! Germs are my friends... they keep my immune system strong and healthy. I have never once gotten sick in Disney World (knock on wood). My mother bleaches everything in hotel rooms now because my step-dad has an immunity issue. But when I was a kid my parents were pretty laid back about that kind of stuff. :hippie: Growing up I ate dirt, for goodness sake and was fine.

Now, I wonder if my cavalier atitude would change if I had children..... hmmmmm......

I can't wait for our trip in 2 weeks!

I'll be sure to lick a doorknob for all you germ-phobes! (Just kidding.... eewwwww!) ;)

Here here!! We left things as is at WDW and had a great time. I am the least of germaphobes and might even let my DD eat a M&M off the floor :scared1:

I was with you until this part. Even though I wouldn't do the other things you mentioned, I can understand why people do them. However, I can't understand what you think could still be lingering on metal flatware and ceramic dishes after you wash them yourself. Have you ever thought about the people at the paper plates and cup factory that may have touched and/or breathed on your stuff before packaging? I would imagine that germs just absorb right into those paper goods!:sad2: :rotfl2:

Hey I didn't say there was any rhyme or reason to it!:lmao: I am just weird, I can accept it.;)

Hope someone doesn't sneak in & take a nap on your blankets:rotfl:

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: OMG that was funny!!:thumbsup2

What does your Mother BLEACH in hotel rooms?

When I had one kid I was a total germaphobe. With 2, a little better about it. With #3 and on - whatever happens happens LOL - the kids could lick the floor and I wouldn't care... well, maybe not that lax but ya know what i mean haha

I bring lysol for my room, hand sanitizer, a travel pack of anti-bac wipes and anything else I feel I need to safeguard myself and my daughter against the germs at Disney.

Okay, let's be realistic (and somewhat gross) - kids & adults go potty and dont wash their hands, kids pick their noses and wipe their boogies wherever they can, people cough and sneeze without covering their mouths and when they do they still don't always clean their hands, etc. I don't want to pick up any of that stuff and when I touch the hand rails, I like to know I have something near I can clean them off with. ;)

What does your Mother BLEACH in hotel rooms?

She wipes down every hard surface she can find and sprays antibacterial all over the place. I've never witnessed this myself, but I've brought her cleaning supplies and heard about it.

I've never bought hand sanitizer! I never take any kind of sanitizer or bacterial wipes on vacation at all. We lay on comforters, lay in the floor, use public toilets and my kids are all over the hand rails! None of us have ever been sick on vacation. We're all pretty healthy, so I guess germs are our friends!:rotfl:
