I don't know if it's been mentioned before but I got this e-mail from a DIS member because that's the only place I have my e-mail; it's from vmkfriend @ gmail, I'm putting the e-mail address to warn you all

Hi there!

Due to an error in our records department, we have lost all information regarding Virtual Magic Kingdom Log in. We are doing our best to get this information back so that we can identify our Virtual Magic Kingdom Players. This information is also necessary to deliver prizes to winners of the Weekly Push's Trash Trivia.

To help us get this information back as fast as possible, Please reply to this e-mail with your current information:

Character Name
VMK Log in Name
VMK Password
Player's Birth date ( mm/dd/yyyy )
We apologize for any problems this has caused with your ability to enjoy Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom.

Thanks,

What I have to say: This is truely upsetting, I'm taking my e-mail off of here.

I am getting really tired of these "phising" emails  I signed up quite awhile back when I was playing Gold Rush on the Internet and I was getting them left and right *supposedly* from WAMU (Washington Mutual - to which I do not have an account) and another from AOL (again, no account). But, I am FOREVER getting them from PayPal, as I use this to send money to my oldest son!!

If you EVER get an email where it is asking for you to click on a link to "verify, update, clear up your account, whatever" .... DO NOT DO IT.

Best thing to do is to call the company, tell them what you got and if they have a "spoof email address." If they do, you will want to go into your mail and make sure that ALL HEADERS are turned on... then forward it to the company!! With the headers showing, it helps them to try and catch the people that are doing it!!!!!!!!!!

Mal .... this might be a good "sticky" thread. As alot of people do not know about these or how to handle them.

Unfortunately, including your email, IM, etc.... in your profile allows anyone who registers on DIS to see it. They most likey are here just to get your information and not to be become a part of our community. :sad2:

I would recommend NOT posting this info, and PM'ing it to friends you would like to communicate with.

Thank you for warning us about this newest scam! I am so glad you realized it was fake and did not send them your information. :)

Quoted from vmk.com:
VMK Values You Must NOT: Type your password anywhere except in the Disney registration and log-in pages, or in the Contact Us section.

It's also good to remember to never reply to an email asking for any type of personal information. Only enter this info on the official site of whoever you "think" is contacting you.

Anytime, the only reason I knew it was fake was because the fact it was at gmail.com not vmk.com. I would have sent a nasty letter back but I refrained myself thinking somehow they could hack into my computer. And why in thw world would they have lost my information...honestly

I would even say to be wary of it even if it did say vmk.com. Phishers are getting extremely good with this stuff and are able to disguise their emails so that it looks like it's coming from the actual site when it's really not. I've gotten plenty of phishing scams that appear to come from the company (and will have the company's email) but it's really not. Bottom line is that any legit place will never ever ask you for your login information.
