Whenever I work, it almost never fails that I get someone who is absolutely nutty at my window?!?! I mean...like total crazyheads. Once I had a woman come up to me, and ask if we had sugar free ice cream. I said "No, ma'am. I'm sorry..." (being mean is not nice) and then she launches into this big rant about kidney disease and diabetes and how her husband can't eat anything there. She then promptly got a Boston Cooler (gingerale or cola whipped with ice cream). Plus it was the only day I ever worked by myself, it was hot...and there were people lining up behind her. I mean...it's not like I woke up and said "How many ways can I make YOUR life miserable today?"

And then, today-I was serving a little girl (no more than four), a girl I tutored three years ago, her little brother, and their grandma. The brother went first. I got his whatever, then it was the little girlie's turn. She asked for a small vanilla in a cup with strawberries and whip cream...and pays for it herself (I think it was from her birthday money and paid $7 for a small treat. Grandma got back the $6.90 it wasn't.) So I make it for her. Then my tutored girlie goes. I'm fixing her order when Grandma knocks on the window and asks for a cup of some sort because Little Girlie is getting it all over the place. I give her a large sundae cup thinking nothing of it-or at the most, that there's more area in the cup and more room so that it doesn't overflow.

I'm giving my tutored girl her second item when Grandma comes up, red in the face, and starts YELLING YELLING YELLING at me "I WANTED A CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a DISH!" I was stunned. I mean-it was hot out, I was almost done, and the ice cream maker was making funny noises. Not even cool. So I gave her a regular large cup, finished the order, and said "Thank you. Have a nice day." My tutored girl, bless her little heart, says "I'm sorry for my grandma yelling at you." I told her not to be sorry because you can't change people and to have an absolutely wonderful day with a real smile.

I must have a homing magnet for the sillies who come up there. It's the weather that drives everyone out.

I don't even think I did anything wrong with the Crazy Cup Kamikaze Grandma! I've never had children. I've never babysat children who have eaten ice cream in my presence. I've never had to seriously clean up sticky icey creamy children. I just gave her a cup.

There are very nice people who I love to serve, who know my name (not in a freaky killer way, just a nice small town way), know what they want, tip a little once in a while...very pleasant. But it's the goofy ones you remember...

Sounds like you had a really tough day! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

But the little girl sounds like a real sweetheart - she must have learned a lot from her tutor! :thumbsup2
