How do you attach Christmas lights along the roof line? I thought it would be as simple as attaching those plastic gutter clips, but apparently that won't work since we have gutter guards. How do you do it?

little cup hooks, lots of em. But once you install them you can hang the lights easily every year

Where do you attach the cup hooks? The gutters are vinyl. Do you attach them directly to the roof? And how?

Bumping...

Surely there is someone out there with vinyl siding who puts up Christmas lights!

Please! I really don't want to start walking up to strangers houses to see how they've attached their Christmas lights. DS and I have been brainstorming outside and we can't come up with a way beyond using outdoor tape to attach the gutter hooks to the gutter.

I know many of you have Christmas lights. Can't someone tell me how it's done?!?

Our house in Florida is stucco, but the trim under the barrel tile is wood, so we staple it (using an industrial staple gun) to the trim...no prob...wonder if vinyl siding homes have the same trim?

Our house is vinyl and DH went out onto the roof and using a stapler(industrial) he hung the lights. He did it so it looked like bunting hanging down and where it came back up onto the roof he put the staple then let it hang down and where it came up he stapled--He did it that way because of the gutters and he figured you'd see it better and he could staple it into the roof shingles so they'd stay

Imagine the glasses are the roof line and the bottom part of the smilies face is the lights-that is what I meant by bunting-UUUUUU

So when it came time to take them down did he pull the staples out?

DO NOT STAPLE INTO YOUR SHINGLES. EVER. IT TAKES A VERY TINY H OLE TO ALLOW WATER INTO YOUR ROOF PEOPLE.

to hang lights onto the gutter when gaurds are attached, take small S hooks and slip over the top and hang lights onto them, or get a box of big paper clips and bend your own hooks... the paper clips are flexible enough to wrap around the l;ight strands and hold them in place.

Thanks, Froggy! I don't know why I didn't think of that!

I wanted the whole roof to light up this christmas, But reading all over the internet, Everyone says Staples, Well that freaks me out, isnt the point NOT to put holes in your roof, so for anyone that lights thier roof (not just the Gutters) How do you all attach it..

They make little plastic clips that will hook to your shingles. Sold by the xmas lights at the store. OP-could you clip to the first row of shingles above the gutter?

they also sell this little clips that slide under the shingles. We have a few different roof lines, some just shingled and others with gutters. We have to buy the two kinds, one for under the shingles and one that clips on the gutters.

Why did someone pull up a 3 year old post on Christmas lights? :lmao:

There are clips for the actuall Roof Shingles?
I have gutter clips, but want to do the shingles up and down and up and down etc..

Do you know where you found shingle clips or what they look like, in all the years of buying lights for christmas all Ive ever seen is gutter clips

You might have to try some self adhesive plastic tabs that are designed for cables. You might put your Christmas light on them. It could be an effective way temporarily hang your Christmas light.

Once you get them up....leave them up all year :thumbsup2
