OK you pros, please explain to us first timers how we get to Atlantis while on our seven day eastern cruise (Dec 24-31 2005). Is it possible? And what is this day rate for the hotels? Can we reserve in advance? and is it worth it to do a day there? Casino for DW and myself and water parks for the boys? opinions please, thank you kindly! :earsgirl: :cool2: :bounce:

As far as I'm concerned if you're going to do anything off the boat in Nassau it would be to go to Atlantis. It is a bit expensive, but well worth it, according to my children and husband and myself. Last time we went (2002), we purchased a room at Comfort Suites for $150. I have since checked and they are running $250 plus, I guess they have caught on. I called Atlantis directly and they told me about a Day Use room which is $150 (good deal). The only catch is that it isn't guaranteed. You can reserve it, you check show up in hopes that they have some available.

Is this a different eastern itinerary? Usually an eastern itinerary stops in St. Martin and St. Thomas, not Nassau.

We went in September. At first we had a room at the comfort suites reserved for $149. This room would allow four people to have full use of the Atlantis resort. Because of the hurricanes we cancelled 48 hours out so as not to be charged. Once we got to Nassau (a day late) we called from the ship and reserved a day room directly from Atlantis for 150 which allowed five people to use the resort. This worked out better for us because we were five total so I did not have to rent another room. The hotel gave us a room in one of their older buildings (Far, FAR away from the slides, etc) but it was a clean and comfortable room. We changed and showered there when we were ready to go back to the ship.

I can't say that I enjoyed the day that much, to be honest. The resort was a bit of a dissapointment to us. First, the pool area was not the cleanest. The slides were great for the boys (11) but our six year old could not go on. The aquarium was fun but much smaller than most I have been in. The worst part was the beach because there were very hostile and DRUNK "salesman" trying to sell banana boat and jet ski rides. They would verbally abuse those who did not want to purchase thier services. I was surprised that the security allowed this but they did (as they sat and talked to the abusive men from their golf carts!). Last, we had lunch at the outside patio. It was a simple but expensive burger place. The food was adequate but was infested with birds. I was looking for Alfred Hitchcock to make his appearence from the great beyond. The birds were dive bombing people and stealing their food. My kids were totally freaked out by it and our little girl had her french fries taken. The resort staff said they have tried everything to get rid of them to no avail.
