Been kinda down lately as I've been really wanting to go back to Disney this spring. Couldn't co-ordinate DVC availability and just let it slide. Also, the economy was definitely in the back of my mind.

Guess the wifey was tired of me ignoring her requests for a family vacation and booked us for a Spring trip to Atlantis Paradise Island. 4 nights for a family of 4 in April for CAD$2600. Then there is a USD$200 rebate from Nassau...

Not bad I guess, but I am happy inside. :cool1:

Atlantis is SOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. It is my second favourite place to vacation after Disney. The waterplay at Atlantis is amazing as are the aquariums. Then there is the casino for the gamblers...

Only downside is that the food is so expensive there. No all-inclusive dining plan, but there is a breakfast and dinner option for $70 per day for each adult. Luckily my kids are below 7 and they eat for free.

I will probably have to declare bankruptcy after the credit card statement comes in, but I am not going to tell the creditors til after I come back from the Bahamas...

I have always wanted to go there..looks like a amazing place to visit!
Have fun!!!

Great place, really pricey to eat tho! Hope you did the add on meal plan?

Just mulling over this place this evening. Have been to Bahamas (not impressed) but never Atlantis which is supposed to be great. Please let us know how it goes!

Thanks all.

Yes, the food is really expensive. Will get the meal add on for sure. It's USD70 for each adult. Luckily the kids are under 7 years old so they eat for free. So the cost for 4 days of breakfast and dinner will be Cdn.$700ish.

We stayed at the RIU next door to Atlantis, but it was a dump. Really surprised that a brand like RIU would purchase that property and not fix it up. Musty room, broken water fixtures, bad beds... Just wow. But the best thing about RIU was that it was all-inclusive. Having a buffet was great for our picky-eater toddler. The really bad thing was that you could not access any of the Atlantis water and aquarium facilities unless you paid... something like USD$100/day for full access. :scared1:

For those who have not been to Atlantis, it is fabulous - guaranteed to have a blast or I will give you your money back (just send me your name, bank account number, SIN, etc. and I'll be sure to deposit some money into your bank account ;) ). I'd go back more often if it weren't so dang pricey.

When was the last time you were at Atlantis?

I heard it was 20 dollars for a day pass to use the water stuff and that on property if not a guest there ?

It's around $29 to do a tour of the dig/aquariums but from what I've read it's over $100 pp to use the pools and beach.

I don't think it's that cheap. The US$100/day was for ultimate access - waterslides, aquariums, etc. If I recall correctly, the lesser access pass was US$50.

FYI We were there in December. It was very run down looking and they had just recently laid off 600 staff. It does not appear they are putting any more money into it.:surfweb:

Yikes. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone then.

I actually just sent RIU an e-mail inquiring about dining plans for non-resort guests, but I am not going to go there if this is the direction it's going...

Thanks a million for the heads up.

PS I was talking about Atlantis not RIU. We have never been to RIU.:)

Just came back a couple of nights ago.

Lots of fun. What a cool place. Was a tad windy, but no rain during our 5 day trip.

Food is crazy expensive. Recommend the dining plan if you do go. To give you an idea of the cost of food, a hotdog and pop and two sandwiches came out to USD29. Steak entree at many of the restaurants is USD40 to USD50. Kids under 6 eat free.

Was definitely quiet during the week we were there. One of the waiters claimed it was really busy the previous three weeks (March break I guess). Casino was pretty dead when I went (Friday late evening).

Had a good time overall, but I kinda like WDW better. There's just not a lot of live shows or Disney'ish music that makes you all tingly inside. Having said that, I'd go back for sure. Good place for the kids to play.
