Hi Cruisers

Well, I am getting excited and simply love hanging out on this board leading up to our cruise 12.28 on the Magic!

Any tips on the Atlantis Resort? DH really wants to hit the :bounce: Casino is there much to do if you don't rent a room for the day? :jester: I know I saw a few tidbits on the board earlier - but we're looking for more tips!

Thank you!!!

Hello! Yes, there is a good bit to do besides the casino. The resort itself is gorgeous, and the Dig, a number of aquariums and tanks, is exceptional. There are also shops you'd normally find only in the most exclusive districts in New York, Chicago, or Beverly Hills. Very impressive resort. Now, I've put together a small guide on getting over there that I'll now paste to this post:

Ok, you've said the magic word! Atlantis is the real highlight of Nassau.

Ok, you *can* do the excursion, but, it can get rushed. It is a gorgeous resort, you have four options to do:

1) The Disney excursion.

2) Get a room at the resort, and use all the amentities, 2 options: reserve a room, or try to get over and get a 'day room' limited in availability, first come, first served, and a good bit cheaper.

3) Get a room at Comfort suites, which is considerably cheaper, and allows up to 4 per room full access to everything at Atlantis.

4)(my preference) If you really don't want to use the water amenities, which amounts to a few fancy slides, a nice beach, and a lazy river, you can very easily do it yourself. To do so, just follow these steps:
  • Leave the ship and go to the end of the dock.
  • Take one of the numerous taxis for (right now, price partially depends on a bridge toll) $5 per person to Atlantis, much more pleasant than the overcrowded water taxi.
  • Walk to the center of the casino upon arrival, to the kiosk with the blue globe(Temple of the Moon).
  • Buy a wristband for $25 each for access to all the resort except the water recreation(you can still walk out to the beach, just not on it).
  • Walk the Dig at your own pace. It's long, at least a mile or more, but it is exceptional. And you basically walk about 2/3 of the property in doing so, they give you a map. You can go where you wish, at your own pace.
  • Whenever you're done, just go back to where you were dropped off for another taxi ride back to the ship.
We did this and still got back in time for a late lunch shipboard. But you can indulge yourself of the restaurants at Atlantis, but they are a bit pricey. Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Mark,

:bounce: Thank:Pinkbounc : you:bounce: :Pinkbounc:

I am going to go over this with my DH and will email you a couple of questions, I am sure!

Again, I can't say this enough!!!:Pinkbounc :I Love this site!:Pinkbounc :

DH and I spent 5 wonderful nights at Atlantis in Oct. 2000. I would go back there again in a heartbeat! We really enjoyed the water activities (pools, waterslides, beautiful cove beach), so I do actually think that it would be worth it to pay to use these for the day. There is even a lazy river that we never actually made it to (there was a lot to do there, and we ran out of time!). I loved Atlantis!

We just did the 11-10 wonder and went to atlantis on our own. We were a party of 7 so we got the tax at the street, $4.00 each, got off at atlantis, walked around, as far as they would let you, then played the slots for a little bit (won $100) then walked down to cabbage beach, an absolute beautiful beach, stayed there for about 2 hours and back on the ship for a late lunch. Then got back off to walk around Nasauu.

You said "our cruise 12.28 on the Magic". Did you mean the Wonder? Neither Magic itinerary (Eastern or Western) includes Nassau.

oohhhhh!!

oppppssss..... got confused with St. Thomas :(

My DH will miss this :(

He really wants to visit a casino....... what am I going to do:confused: Disney is the only cruise ship without gambling. And Bingo just doesn't cut it with him.... oh well..

Thank you for pointing this out!

There are no casinos on St Thomas or St John. There are casinos on Dutch Sint Maarten but not on French Saint Martin. Fortunately the ship docks at Philipsburg on the Dutch side.

Most of the downtown Philipsburg casinos are rather seedy-looking with the exception of one... the Coliseum Casino, which is NOT on the main drag, but is probably a $3 taxi ride from the ship, looked fine from the outside. But you know what they say about judging a book by its cover...

The nicest casino on the island is reported to be the Princess Casino at Port de Plaisance.

Thank you Dave!!

I will print this out.

I love your site! You do an excellent job with the information! Keep up the good work!

Happy Holidays to you and your Family!

Oh, by the way, we are in rm 8592 on the Magic, any other tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

Whoops! I did miss that too, :p !

Sorry to get you excited to see Atlantis, but I do have a few places on St. Thomas to recommend to go that are almost as great to visit:

Available by taxi, which is good if you like beaches as there's one adjoining CW. Plenty of taxis there to take you back. Or, there is a Disney excursion that definitely gives enough time to visit CW, and gives a nice tour of the island including a nice long stop at the top of the island if you've never been there before.

And

Click Here for the Paradise Point Tram!

This one you can walk to as it's across the street from the place where the ship docks. It gives a great view of the harbour, and don't miss visiting the birdies even if you miss the 'show'.

Also of note for St. Thomas, there are malls directly adjacent the docks that have a lot of the shops that are available in town, so you might not even need to plan a trip over there.

Hi Mark!

thank you very much!!!

I guess I'll just have to do the western cruise next year!!!

Ok, now I'm totally confused(not hard):

3 or 4 day cruise on the Wonder: Nassau and Castaway Cay

7 Day Eastern on Magic: St. Thomas and St. Maarten

7 Day Western on Magic: Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay.

Now, which one are you on? :jester:

 Oooooppssssss.....

sorry must driving everyone crazy..... keep forgeting about the different 7 day, 4day and 3 day cruises.........

we are on the Magic, 7n Eastern cruise.

Thank you everyone for all of your help and Happy Holidays to all!
