Atlantis Aquaventure through DCL or book room?

We are considering a 4 night Dream cruise to Bahamas on the Dream. We would really want to try the Aquadventure at Atlantis. I have read about booking a room and booking the venture directly with Atlantis vs going through DCL. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences?
