For those of you who have stayed at or traded for Atlantis in the Bahamas -

I have reserved a getaway for DW and my 10th anniversary DS-less at the Comfort Suites across from the Atlantis, but now am considering "upgrading" to Atlantis. The cost difference is less than $100 per day for 4 nights and I am wondering if it is worth the extra expense. I am nervous that the Comfort Suites is going to be more of a motel-hotel experience, and am wondering if the Atlantis will be more of an anniversary trip caliber.

Also, has anyone done either of their dining plans? I know that it's expensive to eat there, so would this help defray the cost a little?

We've never stay at either, but since you didnt' get any respsonses so far, here is what I can tell you...
We took a Disney cruise and booked a room at the Comfort Inn so that we could use the pools/slides at the Atlantis. The Comfort Inn staff was very nice and helpful. However, it is just a regular hotel, nothing special, but the rooms (we took a peek inside them as we walked through the halls to get to the Atlantis) looked nice and clean.
To get to the Atlantis, you want to go down a series of hallways (this is from the front desk), go outside, cross a little street, and walk a little way to the lobby. Then, from the lobbby to get to the beach, you have to walk down a beautiful "shopping" hall (nice shops, etc.), through the casino, then outside. The Atlantis was beautiful, but very, very big and very, very beautiful. It totally blows the Comfort Inn away. It is like (to me) comparing the All Stars (which I do love, so I'm not bashing them) to the Grand Floridian. Comfort Inn - nice and functional. Atlantis - luxurious and beautiful. We did not get to see into the rooms at the Atlantis, but just being on the grounds, and for not that much more money, and it being a special occassion, I'd go for the Atlantis.
As for food, the Atlantis is very expesive. 2 pieces of pizza and a coke was $25. If there is a dining plan and it seems cheaper than that, I'd say go for it.
The time before when I was in the bahamas (yikes! that was 1999!) we stayed at the Sheraton on Cable Beach. On that strip of beach, there were some restaurants that were very reasonably priced (kind of like a TGI Fridays). It would cost you a cab ride and a toll over the bridge, though.
I hope that helps a little!

Atlantis is everything you think it should be!!:thumbsup2 We haven't been since June of 2003, but I still talk about it like it was yesterday. It is like Disney in that you enter into a whole new world when you are there. Yes it is expensive, but then again, like the previous poster stated, there are many upscale resorts and restaurants at Disney too. I highly reccomend the steak house at Atlantis, it has tip top service and to die for steaks!!!! We also ate at a seafood place with a huge wall of glass that looks into one of the aquariums there.
Well there is just too much to tell you about, I say go for it. Check out Atlantis' web site and see all there is to do there. You won't be sorry you upgraded from the Comfort Inn. Good luck, and Happy Anniversary.
