My son and his wife are traveling to Atlanta on the 23rd of Dec. and will be there for a week...does anyone know any special things they should plan on seeing or doing? They'll be right in the city...I've never been there, so I can't help. I'd like to get them a Gift Cert. or something for there...TIA barb

If they are going to have a car, then they really should drive down to Pine Mountain Ga (about an hour to hour and a half drive) and go to Callaway Gardens to see Fantasy in Lights. It is so wonderful and fun.

if have a car Stone Mt for sure! the xmas festival is sooo cool with or with out kids!

Also centennial olympic park will have ice skating and lights all decorated which is in downtown.

Another vote for Stone Mountain. We did Snow Mountain last year and it was great!

I highly recommend Stone Mountain and Centennial Park. Around Centennial Park there is the World of Coke Museum, Children's Museum and Georgia Aquarium. You can probably get them a gift certificate for entrance to any of those places.

I live in Atlanta and can say the city pass is a good deal, not specific holiday things, but gets them into the Aquarium, CNN and a number of other things. The Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker has shows both days and is good holiday fun, Stone Mountain is nice and has holiday activities, Festival of the trees is in downtown atl, Ice Skating in Centennial park.

............and they must stop at the Varsity for a meal!

It is located downtown and is a famous landmark down here.

Be sure to order at least one serving of onion rings.

All the food is fresh. Each day the onions and potatoes arrive and they get chopped up and cooked. Nothing is frozen and then simply dumped in the fryer. Really yummy stuff. Can you tell we love the place?

Well, I have to chime in, Varsity SUCKS, I don't get the attraction to it at all. Johnny Rockets is MUCH better for the same kind of food.

The World of Coke and the Aquarium are wonderful places to visit and it will take almost a whole day to do both. The Zoo is supposed to be really good, I haven't been in many years and they have a brand new Panda cub that was born last week. I understand the CNN tour is great.

If they have seen Disney at Christmas, The lights at Callaway (Fantasy in Lights) will not impress them at all, they haven't added or changed things in many years and it has become quite stale and over priced.

I don't know about Stone Mountain at Christmas, but we were there in late Sept and were definitely not impressed in it either. I am deathly afraid of heights and I was just really disappointed because so many had made it out to be so great.
