Hi everyone! This has nothing to do with Disney but my family is
planning a spring trip to Atlanta. We have never been there
before and would like some recommendations on where to stay
from people who've been there. It's one thing to read a guide
book but it's always nicer to hear from real people! We are
a family of 4: Mom, Dad and our two sons ages 13 and 9. Our
main priorities will be Zoo Atlanta (our youngest is a Pandamaniac!) , the Cyclorama while we're in that area,
Stone Mountain, probably Underground Atlanta and the World
of Coca Cola and we'd like to at least get to Turner Field and
hopefully take in a Braves game. Also, would the CNN tour be
of interest to our kids or would they find it boring?

Back to accomodations, from what I've been reading I'm tending
toward staying in Buckhead because it sounds nice there with
things to do in the evening. When we've stayed in other cities,
we like to use public transportation if at all possible, so hotels
near MARTA might be good for us.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.:)

I definetly suggest Buckhead. There are some really nice hotels there and some connect to the lenox mall and that mall connects by tram to the other big mall across the street which the name escapes me at the moment. I won J.W. marriott for $70 on for 5-3 this is a 4* hotel listed in the buckhead area. If you bid on the 4* you will get a great hotel and there are plenty of rebids. I started at 40$ which was silly but you never know also there going rate for my dates where 165 a night so not a bad score. This area is just minutes away from all that you want to do and see.

I also think Buckhead is a good choice. We stayed at Swisshotel and enjoyed it. My husband has also stayed there on business and used MARTA to go down to the Georgia Dome. If you're interested in an outstanding meal eat at Bones. It's fabulous. :p

I work in Buckhead. I would agree with Tammy on trying Priceline, that's the best way to get top of the line for less money. The area can be quite pricey.

A new Amerisuites recently opened on Peachtree and Piedmont, right in the middle of everything. I haven't tried any of the hotels in that area because... well, I live there!

Don't forget to check out the Cheesecake Factory, ESPN Zone and Maggianos for excellent food and atmosphere.

Hi! We have stayed several times at the Omni. It is attached to the CNN Tower! Also, the MARTA station is attached, so easy access to the MARTA. Close to Underground and the Zoo. But, it is away from Buckhead area! Good Luck with whatever you decide! I love visiting Atlanta!

I forgot to mention to check out www.biddingfortravel.com it's a total resource for bidding on priceline. Choose the area on the board and click the first thread will tell you all the regions and what hotels you could get using priceline and what star rating they are. Good luck to you. Also read the reviews of people who have recently stayed there.

Thank you all so much for the speedy replies. I've never tried
bidding on Priceline before. From what I read on the website,
you can't choose the type of room you want (e.g. 2 Double Beds
vs. 1 King). If it was just my husband and me I wouldn't care
but I'm afraid we'll be given a King room with our two sons
along for the ride! Am I wrong about this?

I've usually gotten good rates from hotelkingdom.com for our
Orlando visits and was going to check them out again for
Atlanta.

We've stayed at several AmeriSuites in other locations (just
this past weekend across from Universal!) and have been
satisfied, but it would be nice to stay at a 4*.

Has anyone taken the CNN tour? I'd love to go but I think my
9 yr. old will be bored.

Again, thanks for all the replies.

I think the likely hood of them honoring your request of two queen beds would not be a problem. I have even been granted free upgrades. After you win your bid call the hotel and ask them to note your request. I think there is not usually a problem with this. I would go for it myself as you can always get a roll away, but i really would put my money on them honoring your request. Good luck no matter what you decide.

Sheraton Suites Galleria in Atlanta, right off I75 (off Cobb Parkway). Nice & great brunch!

We've stayed at the Marriott attached to Lenox Square before. VERY nice hotel. Also, the mall across from Lenox Square is Phipps Plaza.

I believe there are also several hotels around Perimeter Mall, and there's a new MARTA rail line up that way now. The Galleria area is nice, but no MARTA rail line up I-75. MARTA buses might go to Stone Mountain, but I'm not absolutely certain on that.

Do the CNN tour. It was interesting to see some of the "behind the scene" things, and we managed to get through in time to be in the audience for Talk Back Live.

If your kids are into science, there's also SciTrek and Fernbank museums. And when you go to Stone Mountain, do NOT miss the laser show if they're still doing it.
