on the Atkinscenter website includes an Atkins shake for a snack. Now, I am reading that those "sweets" can cause stalls for people.

I have been pretty strict w/my induction menu's but still I have only lost 2lbs (3lbs once, but back up 1) & it's been over 2 weeks. A sample menu for me:

breakfast: 2-3 strips of bacon & 2 cooked eggs, i just switched to decaf coffee w/dash heavy cream & dash of DaVinci's vanilla. I was drinking dunkin donuts french vanilla w/dash heavy cream & 1/2 tsp splenda

lunch: 1 cup romaine lettuce, 1oz. cheddar cheese cubed, an ice cream scoop of tuna fish w/hellmans mayo or cut up chicken, some olives(which I also just cut out because it may cause a stall) 1 tbsp italian dressing (3 carbs for 2 tblsp, 2g sugar)

dinner: a meat (pork chop, chicken, steak, grilled burger), 1-2 cups of romaine, or 1 cup of brocolli, spinach, string beans, 6-9 stalks of asparagus or cauliflauer.

snack(s): diet rite orange with dash of cream & dash of DaVinci vanilla ( this has varied, sometimes Atkins vanilla shake but has too much of vatamin taste to me) or crisp pepporoni pieces or deviled egg(s) or sometimes celery w/cream cheese. An occasional piece of cheddar.

I drink a minimum of 64oz. of water daily as well. It's usually more.

That's a pretty typical menu for me. The only problem areas that I can see might be the heavy cream & DaVinci syrup? I just don't know what else to do. Since I just switched to decaf a couple of days ago, I'll wait to see if it helps.

It's just very frustrating to see that other people are able to drink coffee, s/f jello(which I had once but am afraid to eat because of stalls), Atkins bars/shakes, cheesecake(I also had this once but threw the whole cake away for the same reason as the jello).

Help me out here, please.

Joanne,
You can look at my Journal to see what I normally eat. I stay pretty much on program but have not been losing due to my current meds causing massive water retention. Could this be amything you are experiencing?

Also, by reading the 'other' low carb message boards I have sometimes seen that when people vary their carb intake greatly from day to day they seem to begin to lose again. Another words they might have 10, then 25, then 20 then 30 then 10, etc. They claim that it seems to confuse and wake up the body in some people and get things moving agian.

Did you do the 'original' Alex challenge? When he suggested keeping to the 'basics' for a week. It was mostly just meat, eggs, cheese, etc ---- no extra's. Just the old time Atkins Basics. I was just curious if that worked for you?

I know how frustrating this can be. I've begun to feel at the end of my rope too! I stick to program and am very commited -- it gets sad watching everyone get new clippies each week and I have struggled to just get the 10 pound on that I have. I am starting a new BC med -- Yasmin - next week. I am hoping that will be my answer. I feel really awful on the pill they have me on now.

Isn't it fun being a woman!:)

Wovenwonder may be on to something! I was on induction for 2 weeks and lost like 2 pounds right away and then nothing! It's so frustrating. I caved over the weekend and blew off the whole atkins things. I had chinese food 2 days and even ate some oreos! Those were heaven! LOL I did stay drinking the water tho. Yesterday I had a bowl of cereal and a burger from Wendys. Stepped on the scale this morning and guess what.....my stall has broken and I lost a pound! Yay!!! So now I am going to go back onto Atkins and see if I can keep losing. Maybe the secret is to throw a little carb binge in there to get out of a stall. I'll let you know how I make out.

Jody--I joined WISH after the original Alex challenge but I will do a search & check it out. Good luck w/the new BC pill. I know how you feel there. I will be going on a new one as soon as I find a new Dr. because we just moved here in Feb. & our new insurance just kicked in. I do plan to read some journals today, it tend to be a bit time consuming, the house doesn't get as clean as it should.

phorsenuf--I am a bit tentative to "kick-start" using carbs because I'm afraid that I will fall off the wagon. Hmmm, I do love bread & ice cream. OOH! I like popcorn, too. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the support.:)

Joanne,
I wouldn't use raising your carbs as a license to eat high carb foods. I personally would just eat some higher carb healthy foods for some days. Make some Broccoli or Cauliflower soup to have with a big salad. Keep to healthy carbs or you may really confuse your body. I don't see a problem with a big blow out day every once in awhile but I was talking about changing the way you eat carbs ---- variating the numbers each day instead of sticking to the same number every day.

If you haven't tried to Alex challenge yet --- I'd give that a try first. PM me if you'd like the nitty gritty details!

What BC pills are you currently on? I have some unopened packs of two different kinds -- if they are you prescription I'd be happy to pass them along. I'll let you know how the Yasmin works for me.
:D

I think this "boucing of carbs" is a good thing for me as well. MY weight loss has been agonizingly slow! 12 lbs in 8 weeks now. But I seem to lose when I bump my carbs up for a day or 2 and then go to the induction mode for another week or 2. For me, it's time to go big time back into induction. While I haven't gone off Atkins all that much (I"ve stayed within the guidlines of Atkins, just increased by maybe 15-20 /day at the most) I haven't been strictly on induction. So today, I'm going back on that. You do not have to go crazy upping your carb intake, just stay with ATkins gudelines, but take in more carbs- it'll have the same effect.

Also- are you drinking anything with nutra sweet in it? According to Atkins- this can slow down or stop the losing process!

I've been on the Atkins diet one week today. I lost about 4-5 pounds (my scale kept bouncing back and forth this morning).

Anyhow, the Atkins center pretty much tells you to stay away from diet drinks (unless it's sweetened with splenda). Otherwise, you may stall.

Here's been my menu:

Breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 sausage, decaff with 1 pack splenda and at least 2 tbs of cream

Lunch - 2c. Romaine, 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of ham rolled and sliced, 1/2 small cucumber, 1/2 plum tomato and 2 tbs Marie's Creamy Ranch (Marie's is only 1 carb per 1 tbs). Sometimes I'll skip the ham and have a small turkey burger.

Snack - either I have Celery w/1 oz of cream cheese, OR Atkins Endulge chocolate bar (yum) OR 2 stalks celery

Dinner - 1 pc of Chicken OR Turkey Sausage, 1 cup of mixed veggies (summer squash, zucchini and eggplant)

Snack - either jello with homemade whipped cream OR 1/2 atkins vanilla shake. (I only have half becuase I put it in the blender with lots of ice. it makes 2 servings then at .5 carbs). You can try adding a little vanilla extract to give it a little better taste. OR Atkins Endulge peanut butter cups (yum again).

I'll also usually have one Fruit-2-0. it's made with splenda.

I forgot to add that I drink water throughout the day. I also take one tsp of sugar free metamucille (sp?) with every meal for fiber intake.

Okay, I get it now. Thanks for clearing up the "allowable" carb thing. I have been strict about sticking to the induction rules as far as 2 cups of salad veggies & 1 cup of other allowed veggies. I am making mashed cauliflower tongight & I think I will bump up the quantity or maybe even mix w/brocolli.

I have stayed right at 14-15 carbs/day & right now I am feeling hungry again, even though I had corned beef & cabbage for lunch around 11:30am. I might have some celery w/cream cheese.

Beth, I meant to reply to you, too on my previous post. I'm so glad that you are losing weight so quickly & I have no doubt that I will, too.

My menu looks pretty similar to yours. Diet Rite is sweetened w/splenda. I stopped eating the Atkins bars because I read that it has caused stalls with some people. I'm glad it works for you.

Thanks for your help. I am always open to suggestions.

Eat more protien, especially on induction- that should take care of being hungry!

Joanne,

You will lose the weight!

I have also read several articles where some people weren't eating enough, therefore, they were putting their bodies in "starvation" mode causing them not to lose the weight. To fix this, they needed to up the count and then they started to lose the weight.

Maybe that's why fluctuating the carbs helped others?

Good luck!!

Joanne,
I have a few things that I enjoy doing with cauliflower. One is mashing it just like 'mashed potatoes' but use heavy cream and cream cheese instead of milk. Fine to add butter too if you'd like and it is also wonderful with a little chives.

Second thing I'll do is 'Smashed Cauliflower'. I cook the cauliflower until very tender and then just smash it with a fork on my plate. I will then top it with anything that I would have put on a baked potatoe in the past ----- bacon, chives, sour cream, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, butter, broccoli, etc - YUM!

Third -- I will use it as a base for a cream soup. I cook a bag of cauliflower in a can of chicken broth. Then blend the cauliflower with some cream cheese, butter and some of the drained broth until it is the consistancy you like for a cream based soup. Add to that some more cauliflower for a creamy cauliflower soup and/or broccoli, asparagus, etc. --- top with some shredded cheddar cheese right before serving.
:D

Okay, now I'm really hungry!!;) LOL! The recipes sound delicious. Thanks.

Also, I forgot to ask you If you would please send me the info about Alex's (first) challenge?

Oooh, that does sound good! I love creamy soups too! Great tip,
Thanks!

Can you also send me the Alex Challenge?
