Atkins/Ketosis................why????

I have been following the Atkins plan and was doing well with the test strips and it was a good purple.......................now the stick is reading almost no color...........what happened? and how can I get the purple back on the test strip?...................

And I have been in the mood for a bran muffin and keep telling myself NO and now I am not so sure.......................its only been 11 days since I started this plan and I am stuck in neutral already...............

Anybody with any info out there HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't help you with the test strips because I haven't used them. I am assuming that you are not losing weight/inches as quickly as you would like? That has been my problem, it's day 18 for me & I am 3-4lbs down depending on when I weigh myself.

First of all, STAY AWAY FROM THAT BRAN MUFFIN!!!!!!!! It's stale anyway ;)

I was given some suggestions regarding daily intake from some successful Atkins dieters here on the boards. I'll pass them along to you: 1. Vary your carbs daily (i.e. 10,21,15,30,etc) 2. Increase your fat intake so your body has something to burn 3. Increase your good carbs such as broccoli 4. Try the "old" Alex Challenge which is based on the original Atkins plan (meat,cheese,eggs). Eat as few carbs as possible. He allows a small salad for those who have to have it.

Hang in there. It WILL work (that is, if you pass on the muffin).

There are several possible reasons the strip stopped registering Ketosis. First of all, be sure you are reading it at the same time of day. Your body's metabolism registers differently at all times of the day. Another possibility is that you are taking in some "hidden carbs" that you are totally unaware are in the foods you are eating, that happened to me early on. Take a HARD look at EVERYTHING you eat just to be sure.

Please DO NOT give in to temptation, I am living proof that if you stick with it, it will happen!!

Keep your spirits up, and your carbs low!

How high can your carbs be and still be in ketosis?

And Tammie - no bran muffin till at least after vacation which by the way is in 23days. You gotta make DH take a look at your tankini and go "um oh kids go away for a while"

Now we're wondering if how long does it take the body to get rid of carbs once you have an oops?
Last Fri she had an oops and had too many carbs. Could this being thrown out of ketotis have anything to do with the body "catching up" with those carbs?
 
It depends on what kind of oops it was, if it was a refined carbohydrate like sugar or white flour it should knock her out of ketosis right away.

It takes about 3 or 4 days to get back into ketosis. I've never been out of ketosis so I can't tell you for sure.

<b>pajammatam</b> Make sure that about 70% of your calories are coming from fat. That is very important. Never eat protein without adding some form of fat, butter or mayo.

If you are eating mostly protein and not enough fat your body will turn the protein into sugar for fuel. You need the fat for fuel. Weird, huh?

Hop right back on the wagon and you will be fine. I promise.

You're new and you probably don't know that on WISH we never worry about anything that happened in the past. Feeling guilty about an oopsie is a terrible waste of time, you can't change what happened, so just keep on keeping on.

Just wanted to let you know that NO I did not have that muffin this morning........................and I guess I may not be adding the "fat" with my food............although I had read that my fat/carb/protein ratio should be 60%fat 5-10% carbs and 30-35% protein and I thought that is where my numbers were...........

........the OOPS! well it was a slice of CAKE on friday and then another on my birthday on monday.............and I am down 4 pounds from when I started :rolleyes: so I guess thats better than nothing.................I am also in the habit of eating "good" protein (chicken and fish). You think maybe some more BEEF will be better..............also I have only had eggs in the mornings.........maybe i should add some BACON to that meal.............

I thought the carbs were supposed to be under 20 grams to lose weight..........am I doing something wrong......................

Well, Tam, the cake would be it, then. Sugar will get you everytime. If you can go a few weeks without any refined carbohydrates you won't even want them anymore.

I'm really glad you didn't have that bran muffin. You should go back on induction for at least two weeks and get back into ketosis. THEN, if you will pm me your mailing address I'll send you a present and I think you will like it :) You just can't have it until you finish induction :teeth:
