I've been off Atkins for a month and can't seem to get back on. I think my biggest downfall is breakfast during induction. I have never been a breakfast person, and only when I found out I had low blood sugar did I start putting anything in my mouth before noon, which used to be a low fat fruit bar. But that is not allowed on induction. My thing is I am not that fond of eggs nor do I have time to make them. I know Atkins has their own breakfast bars....would it be a bad thing if I used them during induction and cut back on a vegtable serving to balance out the carb count? I think if I could get off to a good start in the morning, I would be less apt to cheat during the day. Thanks!!!

If you go to the Atkins web site you can see the Bars are allowed on induction.

I would not cut out a veggie. Just count your carbs.

Sorry, I didn't think the bars were allowed on induction. And they can cause some people to stall. I wouldn't want to start out that way. Definitely don't cut the veggies. You need the nutrients from them. Breakfast doesn't necessarily have to be breakfast foods. Lots of times I have left overs from the night before. Is that something you could try?

I agree, maybe the answer is to think outside the box of breakfast foods. How about a hunk of cheese and some sliced smoked ham, for example? Or tuna salad, or tomatoes and mozzarella with basil?

You said you weren't too fond of eggs, but if you hard-boil the occasional egg the night before, that would get you there without needing any morning time to prepare it. If you've got the time and the inclination, an omelet can taste very different depending on the fillings -- maybe add some chopped salami and cheese to the egg part to mask the flavor even more.

Lowcarbfriends.com has a huge thread on breakfast alternatives. I got some great ideas there. I'll be hinest, most mornings are a bar or some string cheese.

Could you have leftovers for breakfast? I do that sometimes. I've had shrimp scampi, reheated deep fried wings, cheese burgers...don't restrict yourself to traditional breakfast foods. Use your imagination!

Actually, it's perfectly fine to have the Atkins Morning Start bars during induction. They're only 2 net carbs. I had a similar dilemma when I started Atkins last August. I called the Atkins center in New York and was told that the Morning Start bars are ok, just limit yourself to only 1 a day and you should have no problems. If you look on the Atkins website and look at the box of bars, you'll notice the Atkins phases symbol shows a 1,2,3 and 4 which means that particular product can be used from induction through maintenance. All of the Atkins products have that symbol on the packaging as a guide. Hope that helps! Oh, BTW, you can find the bars cheaper at Walmart rather than getting them at the grocery store or the Atkins website.

The Atkins bars are yummy, especially the cinnamon bun one, but I have to admit that my weight loss has been slower since I started to have one a day. I tried eating half of one yesterday and soon ate the other half (but at least I didn't eat the whole box). It could just be a coincidence since I've already lost 4.5 lbs. in my first week of induction and this second week may just be a little slower. I've also changed breakfast to things like a hamburger patty and foods I would have never thought of that early in the morning. You just do what you have to do!

I made a big pot of chicken soup with lots of chicken and veggies (no noodles, alas!) and zapped up a bowl for breakfast. It was quite good actually.

Now that I am done with induction, I have a great breakfast that I read about on WISH:

1/2 c cottage cheese (I use ricotta now, since I like it better, but you have to count a few more carbs); 2T ground walnuts, and 2T sugar-free maple syrup.

Only takess a minute to make and eat, and it holds me until my mid-morning cheese snack!

I love the Morning Start Cereals! I use cream with them (the banana and the almond are the ones I like) so you have to count carbs for that too, but it is very good. (And I HATE cereal. I absolutely NEVER eat it at all.)
I sometimes make the Mock Cheese Danish, too. (I had a tooth pulled today, so I made a double one of those for dinner. YUM.)
