Atkins folks - can we eat beets?

I picked up a nice beet and onion salad at the market that I was going to add to my usual lunchtime salad, but can't find beets listed anywhere in the Atkins book, or on their website. That makes me think they are a no-no!

Anyone know how many carbs?

I found them on www.fitday.com. A cup of raw has a net gram of about 9 grams. I don't see them listed in the induction lists anywhere if that's what your asking about.

Thanks Robin - I can then add two or three slices to my salad. I love them!

I think by "raw", they mean the beets in the produce section that aren't cooked yet.

In my nutrition book, beets (depending if they are pickled or not) can be from 9 carbs to 25 carbs for a HALF CUP!

It is very common to add sugar to beets. I think I might stay away from them unless I can see the packaging and read the nutrition label.

A more important question for me would be ..... do we WANT to eat beets?? Just kidding - I'm not much of a veggie eater!

Hope you can find out the answer to your question.

Pam, I actually LIKE red beet eggs - just not the nasty beets themselves!! :p What's not to love about bright pink eggs! ::yes::

Beets aren't a good "carb deal" for me. I don't like them enough to spend the carbs on them. If I liked them a lot, I would definitely spend those carbs on them :)
