Atkins at the World

I hope by the time we go to WDW in February, I will have lost a little bit of weight and have more energy to take in all the magic!

Larry's girl, I've lost 30 pounds in the past six months, and have been on the treadmill most days, and it really helped me at Disneyworld! Those *long* walks seemed a lot shorter this time! I hope you have the same exeprience!

I recently tried some brand of low-carb milk, and didn't like it. I prefer unsweetened soymilk, which is hard to find in some areas but is quite low in carbs. Gooding's in the Crossroads shopping plaza has unsweetened soymilk but charges about 50% more than every other store where I've seen it (of course!)

Thanks for the info, Kay1! I didn't have a chance to try the no-sugar added ice cream at the American Pavillion, but I had some at AK and at Beaches & Cream and it was...OK. It's also fat-free, so it doesn't taste as good as low-carb ice cream with fat in it, and I suspect it has more carbs than low-carb ice cream with fat in it. But, it was better than nothing.

Hi Everyone-

I am an Atkins devotee (started 9/14 and have lost 27lbs!!!). I just returned from 11 days at WDW and I lost 2 pounds. Here's what I did... a lot of walking. I mean a LOT of walking. I enjoyed many ice creams and the ocassional high carb product. I also stuck to lots of meat and salads at most restaurants. It's not easy to do strict Atkins at Disney. Lots of their meats have sauces, and their counter service places have lots of carbs. My best advice would be to do a big push in the few weeks before going. Go back to induction if possible. When you get to WDW, figure on a lot of exercise, and eat what you want within reason. You still have to live, and if you don't satisfy a craving every now and again, you won't be able to sustain the program for life.

Have a great trip!!!

Hi. Atkins nutritional approach here, going on my second year. I've tried the low carb milk available at Super Walmart and it isn't too bad! The chocolate is my favorite. The Breyer's Low Carb ice cream is ok, but is best if a little softened. Hard from the freezer it tends to be a bit crumbly and chalky.

Nature's Own and Arnold's now make a low carb bread. Nature's Own is pretty good. Tends to be sturdy when used as an ingredient (such as in stuffing).

I try to stick with fresh and home made as often as possible. It is easier to count the carbs that way and I can avoid many hidden carbs too.

I've never had a problem at Disney. I explain what I need and work with the server to fashion a nice meal. At counter service I simply frequent those that offer something I can have, such as ceasar salad, etc.

Gotta love the low carb approach. I've never felt so good, nor been healthier in my life.

Don't forget to tell your waitstaff of your needs. We were at Le Cellier recently and I told our servers that I did not eat bread or potatoes...I asked for the prime rib sandwich without the bun (it was great, by the way), and asked that a vegetable be subbed for the potatoes. This seemed to throw the server off and she said initially that it couldn't be done, but I just smiled and asked her to ask the chef on my behalf...sure enough, my lunch arrived with a side of delicious roasted mushrooms in some sort of garlic roux where the potatoes would have been. A real treat! Oh yeah, I did sneak a breadstick.... Good luck to you! We really did not have trouble sticking to our diets, although we do SouthBeach rather than Atkins.
