I'm shopping for airfare from Seattle to Hawaii for our trip in June. Lately ATA keeps coming up as having by far the best rates. I know they don't do meals but do they have in flight movies???

We're taking our DS's ages 13 and 8 with us and I'm worried about the boredom factor!

Any other experiences - good or bad ???

Yes, they have inflight entertainment. It's $2 for headphones, which you can keep and use on future flights. You will probably be in one of their nice, big 757-300s, which have leather seats with adjustable headrests. In addition to the video entertainment, there are also audio selections.
ATA has started offering meals for sale on some of their flights, but I don't think Hawaii is included (yet).

Thanks for the info Barb!

Just bumping this up to see if anyone else has comments...

ATA does offer complimentary meal service on some of it's longer haul flights. I checked the flights from SEA to HNL and the outbound flight does have meal service, while the return flight does not. Also it appears that they are using (at least in March when I checked) 757-200s on those flights. I am not sure if those aircraft have the movie screens installed yet. The best thing you can check the ATA website, they will show you what meals are served on what flights or call the airline directly.

We flew ATA for the first time last April for a trip from San Francsico to Honolulu. We were very surprised at how good the service was and that there was so many services throughout the flight. There was a beverage service, a hot meal service (chicken or pasta), a frozen sherbert, and another beverage service.

The entertainment was also good. There was a travelogue about the Hawaiian Islands, a feature movie ("Catch Me If You Can" and something that I can't remember) and more travel videos. Very entertaining and informative.

The headsets did cost extra but we always bring our own Walkman type headphones that plug right in the armrest.

Very nice plane with wide leather seats, three on each side of the aisle.

My wife and I both found this discount airline to be vastly superior to our usual American or UAL flights.

Thanks for the info. I was a little concerned since I haven't heard much about this airline. Sounds like it would be better than some of the other options available.

You may not have heard of the because, although they have been around for something like 35 years, most of that was spent as a charter airline. Chicago is one of their hubs, so we have been flying them ever since they started general service. As an interesting side note, they are also the largest military charter provider. One of our flight attendants was telling me some interesting stories about a military flight he worked on that went to Iceland. We fly ATA once or twice a month and have never had any major problems.
