At what point do you contact the BBB?

We signed a contract last June to have a pool put in....it is still not finished. We have had tons of issues - a main holdup was the delivery and making of the pavers. They have also shorted our deck by 1 foot on each side!

I did look on the Better Business Bureau site and this company has had quite few complaints.

I would definitely not recommend them and considering we are spending almost $50,000 with this company I expect returned phone calls and answered questions.

But at what point should I contact the BBB? Now while the pool is not finished or when they actually get through with it? I would like to think they are ethical but I don't want them to do a botched job because we complained.

What would you do?

If you are considering legal action the BBB will not allow you to file a report, just a FYI. Filing a report with the BBB is all well and good and will warn future customers of problems, but it won't get your pool finished. Perhaps legal action would be better. Have a lawyer draw up a notice saying that you want XX done by this date or you will start legal proceedings. I would also figure out how much less time/materials went into your shortened deck and deduct that from the cost, through the lawyers letter.

Wow! When did they begin working? Did the hurricanes have any effect on supply shortages or anything like that? I know that things are moving very slow around here, permits are taking a lot longer to get issued. The demand for building supplies and contractors is great. We started the process of getting a new front door in early January. We paid for everything in January and our permit was finally approved yesterday.

Good luck!

no the hurricanes didn't effect the supplies at all. The problem with the pavers stemed from the color choice and when the company would run the next batch. The pool company ddn't want to spend more $$ with a different subcontractor so they gave us the run around for a few months with every excuse in the book, then we picked new colors that were "available now" only to wait another month and then low and behold our original colored pavers showed up.

Once the permit was issued the pool was dug and things were moving along well. The pavers have been the whole hold up and now it failed the deck inspection since the deck was not to scale and they also poured a footer that was not on the plans nor inspected!

It sounds like they don't have it together. What are they going to do now about the deck since it didn't pass inspection?

It sounds to me like you need an attorney, not the BBB.

Well they have to expose something and it has to be inspected again. They are there now and I was told over the phone they will reinspect Friday and the pavers will be finished as soon as that is over....the deck is down...all the pavers are down but there is no sand in them or anything. Some pavers are not flush with the coping on the edge of the pool...I haven't said anything yet I am going to wait and see how the sand will impact everything. We also haven't mentioned the deck shortage but I will expect a credit or lower invoice since we are paying for the square foot on the deck.
I just feel like our hands are tied. Its always we are waiting on this guy or that....and I have been nice but I am starting to get angry.

Is anyone familiar with permitting? If I look on the county site at the permit issued....it has a construction value and a number...no dollar signs or decimals but I am wondering is that what is considered the cost to put the pool and everything in?
