Our twin DD's are 20, and they are starting to come back I think in another 3-5 years they will be as dear as they were.(not that we didn't love them no matter what).
My best friend's mother and my Mom raised 3 daughters each. All had more than one or two teenagers at the same time. I asked them both how did they survive it? They both agreed that if you could JUST MAKE IT TO 27... they become your best friend again!
I was always my Mom's best friend, but my sisters gave her HECK. Both came around after becoming mothers and adults. Of course, this varies upon experience but patience, I believe, is the best virtue.
I remember I used to "adopt" all the little 6 year old girls I knew. They just adore adults and hang onto every word you say. That changes so we have to change with it. My neices both adored me as children. I started losing them at about 14. They're both in their 30s now and I'm back to being "cool"... ... after years of being an unnecessary nuisance!
I'm going through it now with my Goddaughter. We were so close when she was a little girl, now she's 17 and she doesn't "need" me as much. I've been there before so it doesn't hurt anymore. She'll be back.
My then 15 year old niece came to live with us last summer, under the false pretense that we were cooler then her parents, who she just couldn't live with any more. She got a real rude awakening when she disovered that I had no hesitation telling her all about her 15 year old self. Somehow, home never looked so good to her before.
I have found from my own experience, and also that of my nieces, that as Robin said, it starts around 14 years old and varies when it will end. Be patient.

EEEgads.....I have a 6 yo DD and a 13 yo DD-she has terminal PMS, was born with it, lol! Although I do have to say after this last trip to summer camp and trying out the past 2 weeks for Color Guard at school I almost feel like she is, gasp dare I say it, smiling again! Ahh they grow up so fast though.
if anyone figures this out can you call and let me know. DD will be 17 on the 15th and cant wait to be out on her own . I know nothing, I do nothing for her, I let her do nothing. Who do I think I am ????LOL
I never thought I gave my parents any problems.....they seem to disagree, though. Looking back, I was a good kid and still think I was close to being an angel......My parents must be getting old because they remember things differently! LOL
My dd Ashli and I have always been close but we've had some serious strains in our relationship during the teen years. I'm hoping that things turn around as she gets a little older. You guys are giving me hope for that too!
I am going to freeze my DD at 4 years old! I just love this age. I am still her world and she is so very sweet - for the most part! I see my neighbor with her almost 12 yo and it's not pretty!
