DD13 ask me tonight is she should ask a boy to "go out". I asked her exactly what she meant and she replied about maybe going to see a movie together. I think (I know) she is too young, but didn't say so to her; just left to conversation drop without commitment. She's had a "boyfriend" before, but it wasn't what I think she is aiming for this time. I'm sure it's harmless puppy-love, but I don't want her to get involved in something she is not ready for. At what age do you let go and say it is okay to "go out"?

My DD turned 14 this past June and I finally allowed her and her BF to go to the moveis "on their own". They have been "going out" for a while, but usually in a group setting ( not that a group prevents anything really, but more eyes and ears of you know what I mean ;) ) Anyway, the movie turned into a weekly Friday night date , w/me and BF's Dad splitting the driving to/from the theater. Another common date was fishing at the pond near our home and bowling and miniature golf. They are both broke now and swamped w/homework....their first date in over 3 weeks will be this Friday for yep, another movie! Thank heavens for Screenit .com!

:rotfl: Pop Daddy - you always know the right thing to say. If only we could hold on to our children so long! I'm beginning to dread the next 3-5 years and suddenly feel aged.

LOL.. Actually NEVER! :p

Hmmm...sorry I don't know yet. My kids are only 7 and 5, so I am not at that stage yet where

they are interested in the opposite sex. My parents are very strict. They are old fashion. I didn't start dating until I was done with HS. Still they gave me a hard time going out. I was already 22 and still have to be home before 11pm!! And I sometimes end up going home about 1am. And my parents get mad. Then they got tired of getting upset. They just kind of let me be. I respected them when I was living with them. I lived under their roof and it was their rule, but I kind of made them bend it a little bit. They have to understand that I am more Americanized and things are just different here than it was with my older siblings who grew up in the Philippines.

I think I will let my kids date when they get to HS, but I'll let you guys know when the time nears, which I hope it will be a loooong time from now!

Sorry if I am no help to you. Just sharing you my experience. :)

13 would be an age where I would let my daughters date and go to movies with a boy.

I'm "thinking" of allowing her to double date at 15. We'll see how that goes. She hasn't shown any interest in dating yet. She has a really good head on her sholders, but I'll still worry like crazy. :)

Double date sounds good to me! As long as I am the other "double"!! ( like a chaperone.)

Ok just out of curiosity lets turn the tables a little devils advocate here. At what age do you let your sons date?

Amen, and don't forget the chastity belt to go along with them. Hope mine ends up an old maid school teacher who has lots of cats and dogs :teeth:

My son is 11. No interest in girls yet. They're still "icky." LOL! I told him that will be changing this year somewhat...6th grade. Because of my parents messing up with me, I'll let him date at a younger age. It will go case by case depending on the person. My parents' magic age was 15. Well, I met a great one at 13 and wasn't allowed to go out.  Have been reconnected with that person 7 years now, but it's too late. Sometimes life really stinks!

Whenever they want :teeth: I love double standards :teeth: ;)

We used to tell her that we wold let her date after she got married LOL then when she was about 13 she caught on and said " How am I going to get married if you never let me date?" I told her you are catching on .......
We let her date when she turned 16 and the guy had to come and meet us .

Her brother had the same rule .

well my DD is 8 so it really hasn't come up yet. I started letting my DS go to the movies with mixed groups of friends last year when he was in the 7th grade. He hasn't asked about going with just one girl yet, so I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

I have both boys and girls and It will most likely be 16 for both....My dd just turned 13 and she goes to places in groups of 6 or more every now and then...
