This is the Kindle Special Offers (the one that receives screen saver advertisements for sales. Note - the ads are not in the books themselves) Free 3G and no contracts. New price is $139.

ps. Historically Amazon will adjust Kindles for price changes if you are still within your 30 day return window. So if you bought the $164 Kindle Special Offers within the last month, call to inquire.

I don't know if the ads will all be ATT with that, but I have to say, I got the $164 Special offers model and I think they could charge MORE for the one with ads. I have gotten fabulous discount codes. I LOVE it!

I have the $114 Kindle with special offers and got an offer for a $100 Amazon gift card if I signed up for their credit card and was approved, which I was. Sure do love that offer!! ;)

I've gotten a couple of $10 gift cards/credits, $25 off a $50 purchase, $10 off video game or movie rentals. I love it!

But they REALLY think I would like to drive a Buick and use Oil of Olay. ;)

Damnit - I ordered the wifi only Special Offers Kindle - 5 weeks later they came out with the 3G. I ordered the 3G Special Offers Kindle June 1 - 6 weeks later there is a price drop.

Now I have two Special Offer Kindles - one with 3G and one with wifi only, both purchased just outside the 30 day window.

On the bright side, I only paid $154 for the 3G model, using a $10 promotional credit I got from the wifi SO Kindle previously. So I am "out" only $15 instead of $25...lol.

And I just bought 6 tubes of Neutragena sunscreen, delivered free to my door, for $45.00.

Well - 3G for $139 is a very tasty offer but we have too many eReaders around here as it is.

I'm really anxious to see the upcoming Amazon tablet.

I've been thinking about getting an eReader, since my iPad is hard to read in sunlight.

Can you check your email or browse the web with the 3G connection on the Kindle? I know it's in black & white, but I can think of times when it would be easier than looking at my tiny iPhone screen.

I can't wait for the amazon tablet.

I almost jumped at the reduced price on the 3G WSO Kindle. However, I noticed something interesting in the descriptions.

If you look at the features list to the left of the girl on the beach, the $189 regular 3G Kindle says at the bottom: "WebKit-Based Browser – Free 3G web browsing (experimental)."

Now if you look at that features list for the $139 3G With Special Offers, that line says:
"New WebKit-Based Browser - Browse the web over Wi-Fi (experimental)."

Was it sloppy cut-and-paste from the description of the WiFi With Special Offers, or is one of the features of this reduced price Kindle that they've disabled the use of the web browser through the 3G connection and are only allowing it via WiFi?

Hmmm. I've been thinking about getting a kindle to add to/maybe replace my sony and this is a good deal. But now the rumors are really heavy that the kindle 4 will be out in October. (I don't want a tablet, although I'm sure that will be cool -- I just want the ereader.) So do I wait, or jump now? I wonder if the 4 will be that much better/cheaper. Decisions, decisions...

Ditto ! In the two months I've owned mine(birthday gift from DW)... $20 Amazon GC for ten bucks, and just recently... one of thousands of ebooks for a buck(one per customer) - I picked up the second Kingdom Keepers book.

I used the 3G web feature at the beach house we rented last week(no wifi hot spot) to check e-mail and post to twitter/get glue. Not the best option, but works in a pinch ! :thumbsup2

I just picked up a Kindle 3G for my DMiL's birthday at Best Buy. They said they'd sold several of them today. Thanks for posting this OP. I wanted to get her a Kindle but she doesn't have easy access to WiFi so this is perfect!
