We are at OKW in a 1 bedroom right now. When we pulled up last night, I was thrilled to be across from the bus stop at Old Turtle Pond. Very nice! Then I was thrilled to find that we had a bottom floor room. I didn't notice the lowered peep hole until later.

I have found that I like this HA room! It is nice to come in & have a ref - a side by side- with crushed iced!:thumbsup2 I can't even get that at home. My DH is having hip trouble, so was thrilled to be on the ground floor. I'm a almost 5' tall so, everything is my size. It's wonderful!!!

My DH & I had been discussing never having a HA room, as we were driving down & figured it was about time. From some of the threads on these boards I was really worried, but I've found that I like the 1 bedroom ones at OKW.

The shower mystified me (I'm a shower person), but then I realized, I've finally got a place to put my foot when shaving:cool1: Sometimes, it's the little things that matter! Some of the showers, in the other DVC's, I'm doing good to get my feet washed. So far, no problem with the water coming out on the floor.

It rained last night, but it looks good for tonight. We will go to the Flower Power concert tonight, because the weather looks iffy for Sat-Sun nights.

The grounds are nice, & the buses have been good. The DHS buses have been slow, but I'm on vacation & need to slow down. The crowds at DHS seemed large to me, so I'm interested in what it will be like at Epcot tonight (it is also EMH tonight).

The only thing that I don't understand about this HA room is that the king mattress set is shorter than the bed frame. It goes up to the headboard, but there is a space of about 6" between the mattress & the footboard. :confused3

So they are not really HA rooms, they are shorter person rooms. ;)

Isn't OKW the best??

We prefer "fun size".

And yeah, HA rooms have surprisingly good treats for non-HA folks, especially older folks. My dad complains royally when we stay at Marriott and he gets stuck with the non-ADA bathroom. Commode is too darn low for him. One of these days, I expect non-HA folks will just have a hole in the floor to squat over and call it "inexpensive modern design".

OP, take pictures of that bathroom for me would ya? I've never seen what an OKW roll-in shower looks like.

Here's a picture of the master bedroom in the OKW roll in shower room.

I'm so glad you had a picture Sue. I thought my camera was packed.:headache:

The only thing that I really consider HA about this unit is the roll-in shower, the raised toilet, & the microwave is almost at countertop heigth (maybe a hand spand above the counter).

There is a roll up area to the kitchen sink, but the dishwasher is standard. The washer & dryer are also standard. The sink in the shower is roll-up also. Oh, there is not a nightstand or lamp on one side of the bed. We solved that problem by using the stool of the bedroom chair & the pole lamp that was behind it. Some of the lamps in the unit have a touch switch instead of a turn knob.

In other words, Deb is correct - it is a short person unit! If I had known more about these units, I would have requested one, if given a choice at check-in. They are certainly nothing to be scared of!:)

Sue, thanks again for posting the picture.

:rotfl2: I believe that's one of Disney's issues people both DVC and non have complained about for years at all the resorts... the sheets aren't long enough!

Someone needs to educate them: if they plan on "short sheeting" the bed -- they're doing it wrong! :lmao:

I've never gotten a DVC HA room yet but I've had them at AKL as well as at other hotels on different trips. I never mind them except for the roll in showers if the floor gets wet and slippery. I had one beautiful room in Miami that had tile floors instead of carpeting and a HUGE shower that was roll in but also had a glass wall and door. It was maybe 3 times the size of a normal shower. For me, that room was heaven. My allergies do much better when there is no carpeting (we have none in our home) and that shower was wonderful.

I don't usually mind being assigned HA rooms, I just worry that I've gotten a room that someone with a disability might really need. I hope that never happens.
