at home reception?

OK everyone what exactly did you do at your home receptions, did you do the whole cake cutting and garter throwing, and everything else there? or was it just a get together...

Erinlovesmelvin, when I first married my husband, we eloped to another state for our marriage ceremony. When we got home to the West Coast, some dear friends of ours threw us a reception at their home. It was wonderful, especially the wedding cake. Yum!

During the Christmas holidays, we traveled home to see our families. My parents threw a reception for us at their home. It was wonderful, especially the wedding cake. Double-yum!

Fast-forward 20 years...

When we renewed our vows in WDW, we finally threw our own party. It was held inside the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. It was wonderful, especially the mini-wedding cakes. Triple-yum!

No matter what you do and where you are, as long as you’re with loved ones, it will be wonderful. And if you’re lucky enough to get a wedding cake, well, that’s just icing on the...you know...cake. ;)

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I wish you all the happiness in the world.

We're doing a whole reception with all the formalities. Since we're having an intimate wedding, it's only immediate family. We want to celebrate with all our family and friends.

I am not having a home reception but my neighbor did... She had a Luau as her reception. She had the food served by white glove service and had a DJ. They had the cake and garter toss.. It was beautiful and intimate

We rented out a local reception barn and had the event catered from a local Bar-B-Q place (Buddies Bar-B-Q for those in the south). We rented the formal table clothes and decorated tables and the entire barn... we had a friend of the families make a disney cake with small mickeys on them

We had everyone wear dress casual clothing and it was more less a big celebration. I think everyone had a good time and it was nothing "too much". We are southerners in every way-- i couldnt see making people get so dressed up only to come to a wedding reception that we could easily dress casually at and have a good time!

Maggie -- your reception was just beautiful!!!!!! What a fantastic cake!

We are having a reception but with a bit of a twist. We're doing a wedding tour in July. Our friends and family are kind of spread out over Ontario so instead of asking them to come to us...we're going to them.

It's completely informal (I may wear my bride ears :goodvibes ) and we're kind of theming it like a rockstar tour. So we're handing out tickets instead of invitations, and t-shirts as favours. I'm pretty excited about it. But I still have so much to do for it.

Such a unique idea Tiffany!! What kind of tickets? What are the t-shirts gonna say? Man-- thats a vacation all in itself. How exciting. I wanna go on a road trip now...

We are planning to have a very informal event where my parents live a couple of months after the wedding. I have already said that I don't want a lot of money spent on it, I want it casual and fun. I was thinking something in a park or Legion hall...some good homemade food, some good drinks and a bunch of fun! A tiny part of me wishes to wear the dress again, but I don't think that it will fit in!

I think you can make the at-home reception as formal or as casual as you want. Do what suits your style and your budget! good luck.

I still have to order them but I'm going to order custom made tickets through Ticketmaster http://ticketing.ticketmaster.ca/customtickets/
I'm thinking a logo of a castle and the "Tiffany & Simon's wedding tour 2007" with dates, times and locations on these.

Then I'll put the logo that my mom made for our DIY programs on the front of the t-shirt and the listing of cities on the back. I figure we'll have permanent markers to have our guests sign the backs of one for us in lieu of a guestbook.

I'm pretty excited about it...but boy I really need to hop to it and get this stuff ordered. I've been distracted because I'm trying to print out albums for our parents. We just received the CD from Randy last week. We're giving them albums with 200 prints so it's taking a bit.

That is awesome.. how did you ever think of something like that? You need to get in the creativity department for a planning firm... forget law-school;) Just kidding.:wizard:

We are having an at-home reception here in NJ. So far it's going to be about as big as our Disney wedding was. Looks like 45- 50 people will be attending , which is fine with me. We are renting a hall - Masonic Temple - and having it partially catered. We are having cupcakes instead of a cake and a friend of ours has a band and he's bringing them in for the full 5 hours for $250. Oh yeah, the best part is we're not paying for this one. This is my Mom's baby, not mine... I worked on the first one... :rotfl: I have a different dress that I was actually planning on wearing at our reception in Disney but just couldn't bear the thought of not wearing my Cinderella dress all night... which actually works out well anyway, because this dress still fits... whereas the wedding dress is too tight and I can't quite get it zipped now that I have a bit of a bulge from my preggers tummy... :goodvibes But that's ok... at least it's not because I've eaten too much food since coming home. We are having a sem-formal reception... so, women wear skirts or pant suits, guys wear a shirt and tie/jacket... ;) We just wanted it to be a little dressed up. Whatever makes you happy... :)
