We have been at BLT for 3 days now. We own here and the primary reason we bought at BLT was the convenience of being able to walk to MK and take the monorail to Epcot. Therefore, I was extremely upset to find out yesterday that the monorail to Epcot does not open until 9:00 now because they are doing upgrades on the system. This is terrible! Then, we had to wait 15 minutes for a bus!

The change to operating hours for the monorail was announced back in June.

As of 6/22/14: The monorail will have a different operating schedule than normal as an automation upgrade takes place. An automated monorail will allow for faster switching times, more frequent dispatching of trains, and accurate arrival information. Additional buses and watercraft will be available during this time (guests who have early breakfast reservations can also use watercraft or bus service). This schedule will be in place for a few months, but no specific end date has been set. The schedule will be:
Epcot - 9:00am-11:00pm
Resort monorail - 8:30am-midnight
Express monorail - 9:30am-11:30pm

I think you would be more upset in the monorail brokedown because repairs and upgrades didn't take place.

Upgrade work has to be carried out and it makes sense to .do it now because it will impact fewer guests.

Waiting 15 mins for a bus is no big deal.

I understand that, but why do it during the very busy summer season? I was just stating that this takes away a major advantage of BLT.

Since parks and transportation are open 365 days a year, for about 18 hours a day, it is difficult for Disney to shut down operations to make needed repairs and upgrades to the system. The monorail is still running for about 16 of the usual 18 hours.

Have you checked if they are offering a ferry service to MK in addition to the bus?

We just returned last week from a two week stay a BLT. We didn't find the monorail to be a problem at all.

I would prefer a bus to Epcot from BLT all the time- I have found in the last year the monorail to take much longer than I have ever waited for a bus. I do own at BLT and stay there 70% of the time- otherwise I stay at my other home GFV also dealing with monorail issues.

The last time we used Disney transport to Epcot on the way back we took the monorail from Epcot but the resort monorail and express monorail were not working properly so then we had to ferry back to the MK and then walk to BLT. A bus would have been much easier.

I guarantee that you do not own or stay at BLT.

Don't let this ruin your vacation, things could be worse.

We own and have stayed at BLT and to be honest the monorail has had some type of problem every stay. Bus waits can be 20 minutes sometimes longer.

We have learned to stay close to the park that we will be spending most of our time at. VWL or VGF for MK, BWV for DHS and Epcot and AKV for AK. We will also rent a car when we don't feel like dealing with Disney buses.
