AstraZeneca Any experience?

before you make a final decision, check out what options are available to you for a different vaccine. In Ireland, if people are scheduled for AZ and refuse, they are not offered another appointment for a different vaccine and they miss out on their allocation and will have to re register once all the age groups are open, ie September / October time
If I refuse then I will probably have to wait until July/August. The only issue is that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is also available to the general public so I might end up with that one and that is made with the same technology so similar risk and less effective. I think it will take some time until we can shop around for a vaccine.

This is what's happening here in Canada too, exactly. Except that now there's another curve thrown into our ever-so-screwed-up delivery scheme. We will apparently not be receiving any more AZ in the foreseeable future. Our supply contracts are with the Serum Institute in India and very understandably, they have halted exports to serve their own domestic needs. What we have now (or did have) came from the US stockpile and again, rightly so, the next batch we had arranged to purchase from there will be going to India as a relief measure as well.

So what that actually means is that as haphazard and unpredictable as our supply of Pfizer and Moderna have been, more of each will likely arrive here way sooner than the AZ. People in the younger age groups will have access to them in year-of-birth sequence and their numbers may come up well before there is anymore AZ to be had by the open-eligibility groups. And what it means for second-doses of AZ for those of us waiting is anybody's guess {{sigh}}.

@White_Rabbit18 this isn't intended to sway your decision. The supply issues occurring around the world are not things you in the US will be faced with due to the differences in your supply-chains.

Thanks for posting. At what point, will you feel like you are in the clear from having to observe for symptoms? Two weeks? Three weeks? I guess hospitals are more aware now about complications

4-16 days as per the instruction sheet I posted. I am now 12 days post vaccination so I am almost past the point where I need to be at all concerned.

I got Astrazeneca in the fall as part of a vaccine trial in the States. I had side effects after the first shot, but not after the second. I had a known exposure about two months ago and was able to get a PCR test through the trial to confirm that I did NOT get the virus. My SO got Moderna in January and he also did not catch covid after that exposure.

So much anxiety with this vaccine. Especially with all this mixed messages we got this week in Ontario from NACI .

I am really thinking of waiting for another vaccine if they let me in August.

Did make it to day 15 as of today so I guess that is good but feel really bad for the ones that didn’t make it. I guess you never know. Just hate waking up to another person that had the rare blood clot.

My husband had his 2-3 weeks ago and apart from feeling a bit fluish that night was fine. I am a nurse and had the Phizer a few weeks prior. I know many people who have had the AZ in thr the last few weeks and are all fine.

This vaccine has been in the news so much the last few days.

Here in Ontario, and other provinces have paused giving this one due to the blood clots. The days to watch for this after the shot keeps moving. I got mine 3 weeks ago but now are saying 4-28 days after.

I am hoping they let us mix vaccines when it comes time for my second shot in August. I know they say 1 / million shot of getting a blood clot on the second one but the numbers are not what they said for the first one so no thanks.

Still lucky I got my shot only got this one because they said our supply wasn’t coming for a long time. Then the week after I got it they had lots coming in and ramped up .

DH got his first AZ vaccine yesterday and his side effects were 100% exactly the same as mine when I got AZ a few weeks ago. Fever and chills starting around midnight then back to feeling normal by the next morning.

We had our second AZ shot a week ago.
Neither of us had any side effects on either occasion.
