Hey Everyone,

I am not sure if this is the place to post this, but here it goes. My son was just diagnosed with a sinus infection. The problem is he has asthma and with out fail this always irritates it. I wasn't planning on bringing his nebulizer bc I was only going to use his air chamber with his inhalers. He is on symbacort daily and we have a relief inhaler. But the treatments last longer when he is sick like this. I am also concerned about him running around a lot. So we are now bringing our stroller. He is also effected by pressure changes with weather. Do the daily storm patterns cause huge pressure changes. We leave on Friday! So I was wondering if they had nebulizers in the parks or do we need to bring our own? It never fails in our house someone always ends up sick bf we go or while we are that the parks. I guess I should count my blessings that we are on antibiotics now and he will hopefully feel better soon!

Thanks for the help
Sharron

I would bring your own. That way it is always readily accessible...airport, restuarant, park, etc... Rescue inhalers never seem to do much good for my daughter. She can go from fine to ER in minutes, so I don't risk it. I figure a little inconvenience is certainly worth the trade off. Just my opinion.

Also, the Florida humidity seems to affect she and I considerably (both have asthma), so the stroller is a good idea and just take plenty of time in a/c attractions to help with the breathing and you should be fine.

Good luck !

The first aid stations do not have nebulizers. However, they will hold yours (and the medications) for you and provide a private area for when a treatment is needed.

Thank you for all of your help! We will be bringing it with us! I hope some pixie dust lands on us soon and feels better ASAP! I want him to enjoy his trip!

If you are flying put his nebulizer and all his meds into one bag to carry on. Medical Supplies do not count towards your carry on limits. You want to keep it with you at all times, do not check it! Also keep it easy to pull out because you may have to remove it from the bag in security.

Good luck and have a great time! :)

Are there months you would totally avoid going with the humidity/asthma issue? DD and myself both have asthma and coming from very dry CA climate I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks for this info! I had no idea.

We just left WDW today and I'll tell you that last week it was so hot and humid there that I had trouble breathing all the time. I don't have asthma, either. It was just plain hard to breathe with thehumidity.

I ALWAYS travel with my nebulizer. I don't go anywhere overnight without it, and i'm 25 and in all reality don't use it all that often. a few times a month at most. I've ended up in the hospital in Disney 3 times as a child due to asthma before I got a home nebulizer. Even when i'm not sick in disney, i usually end up using it 1-2 in a weeklong trip because of the different climate. I always let them know at the airport security that i am traveling with a nebulizer because once when i was about 13 my mom and i got cornered by the TSA and the police in the security line! The guy sitting at the x-ray machine thought it was a bomb. Guess he had never seen one before!

When I travel I have a CPAP machine with me. I have been told by TSA that I need to put it in a separate bin, just as I put my computer in a separate bin. This way they see what it is and don't panic. (And you don't want TSA people panicking.)

HA! I'll bet he hadn't! :rotfl:

I have/had severe asthma that has lessened over the years with exercise to strengthen my lungs, and allergy shots to take away those extra factors, but it's never been nor never will be "good" on a humid day. And yet, I went to UVA, heart of humid VA - with only two freshman dorms out of perhaps twenty buildings that have central A/C. Lo and behold, they were chock full of kids who like all of us, medically required the cool air.

End result - if you coughed in a crowd of ten people, five people turned to you -- not to ask if you needed cough medicine, but to see if you wanted to borrow their nebulizer :woohoo: We'll educate the world one sick-lunged person at a time!!!
