I was just watching videos of the new refurb of the All Star Movies where we are going to be staying in November. There was a video about the new drink machines at ASSp and the limits of refills within the hours on the paper cups. Is this also for the mugs? Whats the point of paying for "unlimited" refills if they are just going to limit the number of refills. I dont plan on drinking that much soda, but it seems like another way they are offering a "deal" then seemingly limiting that deal. Does anyone know if these machines are now in all the food courts in the Values or was it a no go?

Heres a link to the video

With the mugs they only limit the amount you can get served at one time (i.e. how much one mug will hold) and you can't refill before something like five minutes after you filled it last. Other than that, there's no limit on the number of times the mug can be refilled during your stay. It just won't work on your next trip.

Thank god i gave up soda and all that soda stuff...what a horrible idea that is...there has to be better ways to save money then bring out the SODA POLICE...wow I can alomst see the lenght of stay mugs (Almost, since soda only costs pennies for what they charge, it would take you like 5-10 years worth of disney troips just to REALLY drink the price you paid for the MUG) However NOW you pay for a cup, but have to wait to refill it???? wow horrible idea...

Unfortunately, Its the wave of the Future, I'm surprised they didn't try to sell us on this by retooling the carousel of Progress's last scene, Where Grandma and Grandpa on a fixed income can no longer buy one mug and and get a water cup and split a measly coke. And because of this they have to stay off site somewhere.:lmao:

Whats next, RFID in the toilets, We will be talking remember when you could go to the rest room as many times as you wanted at Disney, And some how the Disney bean counters will put a spin on it having Jimminy Cricket trying to sell us some of his green save a toilet flush malarkey , like he does at the resorts with reusing my towel is good for the earth.:lmao:

Pretty soon the refillable mugs will be on that disney site YESTERDAY LAND:rotfl2:

If you look at the actual "limits" imposed by this new system, they still allow far more soda than any one person could ever drink. I don't have a problem with them finding a way to enforce the "free refills during your resort stay" rule. If you don't like this system, blame the many people who have abused the old system for years. Once again, people who think the rules don't apply to them have 'ruined' a good thing for the rest of us.

EXACTLY!!!

How many times on the DIS have we seen people talking about taking their refillable mugs back year after year? It's more sad to me that Disney has to put in a system just to make us (the public) honest.

Yes, Disney is a business and they are looking out for their own interests. If you had a business, even a small one, would you want people stealing from you?

You can refill your mug every 5 minutes. That's a lot of soda and you can easily get the value of your mug during the course of one vacation. The only ones I can see this hurting are the ones that were abusing it in the first place. No more old mugs, water bottles, Speedway cups, cups from lunch being refilled at dinner, sippy cups, etc.

I honestly don't care about this whole thing -- I can't remember ever in my life needing more than one free refill on a soda (except at Old Country Buffet where the cups only hold about 10 oz, less if you fill them with ice).

On the practical side, though, I could actually see it hurting disney soda sales when it comes to just the regular paper cups (no idea about the refillables).

Under a traditional free refills system, the average family of four would, I believe, purchase 4 sodas, go to their table, and maybe one of those four would go back for a refill and the rest would find 20 oz. of soda plenty for one meal and would get rid of the cups as expected. Disney gets the money for 4 cups and gives out 5 sodas.

Under this new system, I could imagine that many families would see that they were now entitled to four sodas for the price of one: purchase ONE cup which they share around and go back for all four refills so that everybody gets enough to drink. Disney gets the money for 1 cup and gives out 4 sodas.

Maybe that won't happen, but I wonder. Would be interesting to be a researcher right now collecting data.

I'd like to have seen them extend this, to buying a barcode (like in the water parks) particularly useful to those of us who split stay our resorts... i wouldn't buy 2 mugs per trip per person, but i would buy 1 mug per person, and be willing to buy a barcode for the next resort stay.

particularly useful to those of us who split stay our resorts

The new RFID system would really have no issue with split stays. It's known that the time limit on the new mug will be 2 weeks. Only an issue I guess if you're staying longer than 2 weeks.

So, do you think it will be the same code at all resorts or will each resort have their own specific code?

I honestly do not think this system was instituted because people were bringing back mugs from prior years.

I think it was to stop those who were out right stealing by using other containers to get the soda. Apparently, there were many who were filling other types of cups & containers, even whole coolers.

The limiting technology is now available and relatively inexpensive to install. I'm pretty sure it will be expanded to all of the resorts fairly soon.

Wouldn't it be nice if this technology were installed in the parks and you could get your refills for your mugs there, too?

Ahh, ok, i didn't know that.
For us it would still be an issue, as we vacation for 3 weeks at a time (not uncommon for visitors from uk to do 3 weeks minimum).

refill in the parks would be wonderful - if you do the QSDP then having the mugs with you at all times would be great - then the second snack credit being gone would be no big deal with refills at the park
