We are palnning a trip next January after my youngest niece's wedding in the Fla Keys. My Mom who will be 86 by then is very heard of hearing. hearing aides are really no longer an option.
Has anyone had exeprience with the assitive listening devices at WDW? Do they make a difference? She uses captioning on her TV and wireless headphones but I don't think that the captioning devices will be good for her.

My 7yo son has a hearing loss, usually wearing an assistive device, but it's too much at Disney. At home we use closed captions and he reads very well so they work great. At WDW he usually just goes along by sight and touch, but this last trip we tried the portable assistive device that they offer at the Magic Kingdom.

We're technology people and thought it was very easy to use. It did enhance his experience in some of the shows, but it was a little difficult with a few. He hears well enough at Disney, that he just needs it for the few things he misses or misunderstands. He noticed that the scripts weren't actually what was being said, not even on the pre recorded sections. After a while he sort of gave up on it.

If your Mom is really not hearing most of the action, she will probably benefit. If she's getting some of it, it may be more confusing. It's worth a try. We picked it up at the Guest Services desk at the front of the park and dropped it at the same place at the end of the day.

Enjoy the trip!
