My nephew will be visiting WDW in December and has been diagnosed with both ADHD and Aspergers. His mother heard there was a special pass or activity available for my nephew. Has anyone heard of this? Would appreciate any information you have or suggestions for touring the world. Thanks much!

What assistance does he need?

There is no pass that will allow a party to bypass lines or not have to wait.

There is something called a Guest Assistance Card, which helps alert Cast Members to invisible disabilities. There is good information about the GAC in the FAQs sticky at the top of the forum.

When they go to get a GAC, if they choose to, they will not be asked for a diagnosis, but usually something phrased like this "What concerns do you have that would keep you from touring the park?"

Sometimes people cannot climb stairs, or have a visual impairment and need the front row of a theatre. There are many possibilities.

How old is your nephew? What needs does he have?

I can honestly say that as a person with ADHD myself, that a GAC is not a huge help. What helps me most is planning and distractions. I always have my Kindle with me so I can read in line, or I play games on my phone. Even with a GAC there will be a wait, and the alternative to the main queue is not always better for a person's needs.

If we know a little more about his family's concerns about touring the park, we may be able to give more specific advice.

Thanks for the reply. Let me check with his mother and post an update. Their family will be (hopefully) attending my wedding at WDW and one of her concerns with attending was taking her son to the parks due to his ADHD/Aspergers so I want to provide her as much information about what is available as I can.

I just posted the following on another thread and thought it might be of help to you too so I just copied and pasted:

Our DS who is 6 1/2 has Autism and we get stamped Alternate Entrance when available on the card and that his stroller can be used as a wheel chair. Usually the first leads us to a FP line or Handicapped line or a quiet place to wait. The second gives him a "safe" place to be during long waits, crowds, noise. We carry a light blanket for him to cover the hood of his stroller with and he "hides" in there when overwhelmed. We've also had CM's allow us to let one parent stand in line for a character while the other parent walks DS around. This doesn't work for all lines but is possible for the more open character lines. I also agree that earplugs are very helpful. Hope this helps!
