We are going on a 3 night cruise this September. We booked a 5E GTY room and today I received an email assigning us room number 8188, which from what I can tell is a great aft room with a large balcony. My question is...will this definitely be our room or is there a possibility DCL might change it since the original booking was GTY?

I'm pretty sure once the room is assigned it's pretty guaranteed unless of course you fail to pay in full by payment due date.

For the most part, once a room has been assigned that's it. That being said, yes, DCL can still move you to another room. It has happened (rarely).

They could move you at the last minute...for like...a sewer spill/leak, flood, deck dangers if a rail broke off, etc. Nothing is ever a real guarantee, but it is very likely that it is your room :)

We booked and picked our room number 15 months ago (not GTY). I logged in 3 weeks ago (cruise is July 10) and discovered we had been moved. Not an upgrade - same category. It might be less common with GTY since they usually assign when they're ready, but they definitely can move you. We were also moved after picking our room in 2010 but were upgraded to a higher category that time.

Oh really .... I will be so upset if they change my room. It's the same room we had in 2013. Crazy question but what is GTY?? I only just figured out what LOL means so bare with me I'm so not techy.

GTY is a guaranteed status when a room category is almost fully booked. You pay the rate for the category (not a discount, those are IGT, OGT and VGT). You are guaranteed this room category or higher, but your room number will be assigned by DCL at a later moment.

You can always have "DO NOT UPGRADE" placed on your reservation. Unless the move was for some health/safety issue, they won't usually move you then.

What's the date of your cruise?
