Can anyone provide more info on visiting the Assateague Island park in Maryland?
I'm looking at entrance fees.
Foot/Bicycle FREE
Individual $3.00
Vehicle $15.00

At what point do you pay to enter? Is there a place to park to avoid the fee to enter the park? I can't make heads or tails of the map.

Is the Barrier Island Visitor Center worth a visit?

We went last year, and did a boat ride that went there, and other places, taught a bit about crabbing, and fishing etc. We were able to see the horses when we on the island, and were given some history etc. There isn't really much there at all, IMO.

After crossing the bridge to access the Island there is a left turn you can make that will lead you to the National Park. You can usually see horses along the road and pull over and take pictures. You have to pay to access both parks. The Visitor Center is nice but nothing spectacular. You should try to visit it once especially if you have young children.
