Aspartame/Splenda -- did you know?

Soy...since I have started eating more soy I think my thyroid started acting up. I am trying to cut back on the soy but I don't drink regular milk ( ) so any milk is soy, plus I am addicted to Boca "chicken" patties. I also love soy cakes (like rice cakes). Ack. Anyway, I have cut back, but I need to do more.

Have you ever tried Almond Breeze? My DH hates milk and soy milk but likes the Almond Breeze. I get the unsweetend and use it fruit smoothies.

My DH used to work for a company that is VERY well known, they sell a lot of Health and beauty products, including deodorant/antiperspirant. Let's just say that he no longer wears antiperspirant, only deodorant, and when it was time for our DD to wear it, he said "not my daughter..."Jo

I was also wondering what brand you all use. It seems whenever I've tried to use a deodorant-only product in the past, the mixture of the deodorant and perspiration creates a smell that I can only compare to cat urine!

I use Desert Essence's "Dry By Nature"...my dh prefers Alba's "Active Enzyme" line. You can buy them at Whole Foods, Sprouts, or any other "health food" store. Here's a link: http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=4408

The important thing to remember about these products is that they work best OVER TIME. Desert Essence actually uses herbs that inhibit the sweat glands under your arms naturally. Now...if I am doing yard work in the summer...I'm still going to sweat!! However, if I am just doing daily activities, I rarely sweat under my arms any more. Also, there are natural ingredients that inhibit bacterial growth (which causes the famous "smell") in this deodorant. So, even when I do sweat...there is rarely an odor.

I was very surprised to find a product that worked as well for me as a "regular" anti-perspirant. I think I used to sweat so much under my arms because my body was trying to "flush out" the aluminum and toxins present in the anti-perspirant. I never thought THEY could actually be causing me to sweat!!!

Oh, also...DH designed the fire protection system for the Nutrasweet factory. Everything that goes into it is toxic and highly flammable!!

I'm in no way trying to defend Nutrasweet or any artificial sweetner... I am feeling a lot better since I cut out 90% of my soda (almost all artificially sweetened).

But, the fact that what goes into may be toxic individually is in no way indicative of a problem.

Two of the most dangerous elements known, by themselves are: Sodium (highly flammable/very unstable) and Chlorine (poisonous to breate, corrosive).

But when you put them together, you get one of the essential building blocks of life without which we could not survive: table salt (NaCl - Sodium Chloride).

So what exactly are we supposed to drink? I don't drink soda and mostly drink water at work and out to eat. At home I used to drink Kool-Aid with regular sugar. I stopped that because to much sugar will make you fat. Then I went to crystal light. I stopped that because it has aspertame. Then I started Kool-Aid with Splenda. Now I can't drink that? Seriously, what am I supposed to drink? What should my child drink? I don't give him juice because of all the sugar in it.

Well with regard to fruit juice, yes it has a lot of natural sugar (I am talking about juices that are 100% fruit juice). One option is to mix the juice with water. There is nothing wrong with drinking water. You can also make homebrewed iced tea (decaf if you don't want the caffeine).

Thanks for the suggestion about the Almond Breeze. I'll look for it here. :)

I know there is nothing wrong with drinking water and I drink it all day long. But I don't want that to be my only choice for a drink. Does that make sense? I am not a tea person at all so that is not going to work for me. It is really frustrating!

One glass of something sugary a day is not going to hurt you. One of DH's current favorites is Simply Lemonade. Just figure it into your calorie count for the day. Or cut the sugary drink with water. I do that with the Lemonade or with Cranberry juice. Still lots of taste with about half the sugar. :)

I've been LOVING the Izze drinks. You can get 4 packs of small cans (8 oz each) or the larger 12 oz bottles. I just had a can for lunch--this is what is in it"

Izze Sparkling Blackberry

Pure juice from grape, apple, lemon, blackberry, rasbperry and acerola juice concentrates, sparkling water, natural flavors.

There are 90 calories in one can. All sugars are from fruit juice.

They are wonderfully refreshing, not overly sweet, and very bubbly. It cures that "soda" craving I get. My favorite is the grapefruit flavor. They also have blackberry, blueberry, pomegranite, clementine, and green apple.

OT does anyone know if Green Tea has more caffeine than regular tea???
thanks

Christine, where do you buy the Izze?

I get the small 4-packs at Target (they are hard to find they put them over by the fruit roll ups for some reason:confused3 ). I get the bottled ones at my Giant grocery store. I believe Whole Foods also carries them.

To get the soda fizzy fix, I use seltzer or club soda as a base. Usually, I squeeze some lemon juice into it. Sometimes, I'll put a little bit of cranberry or pineapple juice in it. Lots of flavor with a fraction of the calories.

However, I've gotten so used to drinking more water that when I do have carbonated beverages, I notice that they dry me out and make me thirstier!

My stepsister gave us a Mr Tea years ago. It sat in the closet for a while, then DH decided to give it a try. I love when he makes iced tea in it-the proportions he uses are perfect. Then I pour it and put half water in mine, lol.

Ahh yes good point about seltzer or club soda, I also use sparkling mineral water from time to time.

FYI......I don't like the after taste of Stevia. We have switched to raw Agave nectar! It is soooo good!

I will have to check into that :thumbsup2

There are many other choices, teas, water with fresh fruit, and natural beverages like hansen's, a whole foods would have these choices

Christine, where do you buy the Izze?

I find the Izze here at our whole food market more about Izze: http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/izze/
