ASMo or Rent DVC points??

Thank you for your post - I am considering the BWV in March 2006 for Sun-Thurs but wanted to stay Fri & Sat too but the points made it too high - never even thought of going to another resort for last 2 nights. This would be my first time renting points and have been offered $9/night - was this for BWV studio do you think? I lost the message from the dvc owner offering it.

All the input regarding member services has been a great help too so thanks to all of you too! :earsgirl:

$9.00/point is what I think you meant and that's a great deal. It comes out to about $117.00/night I think. I rented points for a BWV studio in May and loved it. The Standard views are a little cheaper than the preferred water views, but go very quickly at the 11 month window. I had a preferred water (not Boardwalk) view and the owner had requested top floor, nonsmoking, close to the elevator for me. When I got there I asked about top floor and close to elevator, but told the CM I was more concerned that it not be a handicapped room. He said 'let me see what I can do' and proceeded to give me an absolutely perfect studio on the top floor, only three doors down from the elevator with a Boardwalk view. It was over the archway between Wyland Galleries and Muscles & Buscles Health Club. Being able to walk (or take the boat) to both Epcot and MGM was wonderful. I spent the two nights prior and the two nights after at POP, using an AP code to keep from paying those high weekend DVC points.

The same owner is trying to get me a studio for Dec at either BWV or BCV. So far she has three nights at BCV and is waitlisted for the other two nights I need. I'll be spending the two nights prior and two nights after (weekends) paying for a room through CRO as it will be cheaper.

heaven2dc - Your welcome for the post. I did end up getting a studio at the BWV during our Feb/March stay. I am staying there 5 nights Sunday through Thursday and then I will switch to a value on Friday. I got points for $10 a point and I wanted the Preferred View of the Boardwalk and the Lake - so, for the 5 days I ended up paying $700 ($140 a night). The value resorts total including tax was about $130 a night (rack rate). So, I am very excited about this. The DVC owner I went through ended up getting me everything I want and the process has been so easy. I am so glad I found the DVC board and went this way - I am so excited to be staying in a deluxe but not paying deluxe prices. Good Luck with your decision.

Hi,
I would definitely go for renting points. We just returned from OKW, Sunday thru Thursday. We rented for 9.50 a pt, which totalled 522.50. I think it was cheaper than getting a value resort, with all the tax they add! Also, I don't know if it was a mistake, but my room card stated that I was a DVC member. I did take advantage of the 10% discount from several restaurants. (They were listed in the member's packet we got at check-in).
The studio was a good size, and the fridge and microwave came in very handy. Also, it was very quiet. I did not like the fact that you had to take a bus everywhere, the place is huge. We stayed at VWL a couple years ago in a one bedroom. With kids, I liked it much better, since everything was right there. You didn't need to hop on a bus to go up to get supplies, or to hit the arcade.
I was nervous renting from a stranger. I tried to find someone who had a large number of posts. I also reviewed some of their previous posts to try to see if they were honest. I would definitely not rent from someone with few posts, just paranoid I suppose.
We are renting again for a one bedroom at SSR this November. Crossing my fingers that this one goes as well as last week!
Good luck, and have fun. The kids will love VWL!!

Debbie

Ok everyone, I DID IT!!!!! Rented points for VWL 1/26 thru 2/4 :jumping1:

Thanks for all your input! Now, the wait..... Can I stand it?? I don't know!! I will tell you I am going to drive my husband
I love this board! You are all awesome!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone:

Thanks for all the feedback. Will I have a hard time getting a good rate to rent a DVC resort if I have to wait until September to book? We plan to go in the second week of January 2006. If I book sooner, but then need to change the dates is there any flexibility? I won't know my dates for certain until mid-September?

Thanks

If you have to switch hotels during your stay will the resorts assist you with transporting your luggage? I was considering DVC Sunday-Thursday since it is less expensive, but I wasn't sure if it would be too much bother to switch our luggage.

Congratulations!!
Since we have started renting points from DVC members, I would never go back to a regular room. It really is cheaper than most anything out there, especially on property. I tell everyone I know about the rent/trade board.
Hope you have a great time. I'm sure you will!!!

Remember that you are renting points from an individual, not from WDW. So the owner of the points may require that you sign a contract. If you have to change your dates at the last minute or cancel, you might not get any money back. It all just depends. And it requires a lot of trust on the parts of the owner and the person renting the vacation.

Second week of January might not be too difficult, but the closer you get to the date, the less likely the villa accomodations that you want will be available.

Your questions are all things you will need to discuss with the owner of the points.
