Hi
I hope somebody here with experience can help me out.. the teen board is 90% freshmen, I think.

I'm applying to 4 schools (UMass Boston, Curry, St Anselm, UNH) and I'm already stressed out!

I asked my chem teacher to write my rec. but now realize that both Curry and St. Anselm have forms that the teacher needs to fill out. Not a prob for UNH or Umass, I can just send in whatever he types up for me. Here's my dilemma: is it wrong to ask my junior year math teacher to fill out BOTH rec. forms? Is that obnoxious/rude? Should I ask my counselor to fill out the Curry form (it's for counselors or teachers) and math to do St A's? Or find 2 teachers, one to do each form?

Also, I can't decide whether or not to apply online. UNH I def. will because they require Common App, and I've already filled it out. Just need to submit & snail mail my transcript and rec.

Curry has an online option (not Common App) but I'm not sure if I should fill out paper app's or just go the easy way - online? Then I'll have to mail the teacher rec form and transcripts...

And with St A's, I have an app. fee waiver, so not sure if I can use that with Common App? It's a piece of paper, so I wonder if I'm going to need to do the whole paper app thing? Because I think you need to submit payment before sending out Common App, so unless there's a way to indicate my paper waiver, I can't use that?

And my essay!
UNH/St A's have the "topic of your choice" option. So I was going to write about why I wanted to be a nurse, etc etc.

But Curry and Umass do not allow a "my choice" essay. Should I just write out 2, and send my choice to UNH and St A's, and the other (probably a person or event that has affected me, as that is an option for both App's) to Curry and Umass?

Thanks for any help, I know none of what I just wrote makes any sense.

It’s not rude to ask for more than one recommendation from the same teacher, AS LONG AS you give the teacher plenty of time to fill it out. As long as they have a few weeks, don’t sweat it. Really, ask the person that knows you the best…you know they’ll say something good and you know they'll want to help you.

Apply online. Oftentimes you’ll save money on the application fee by sending it in online. My school sent my transcript for me; that’s the only way the schools I applied to accepted it. There’s no advantage to sending a hard copy of the rest of the application, in my opinion.

Call or email that admissions office and ask about the Fee Waiver. They won’t mind at all.

Duplicating essays or adapting essays for different schools is a good idea; it can be a huge time saver. Just don’t put, for example in the UMass essay, why you like St. A’s! That happens every once and awhile and it doesn’t help the student! Spend a lot of time on your essay…be creative…have someone read it over. It’s an important part of the application.

Good luck!

Are your grades within their acceptance guidelines? I know some of those are state schools, but are there private ones too? I only really know about Ivy league schools and ones in Colorado lol. For the state schools I wanted to go to, I was within their automatic acceptance so I didn't even have to write an essay or get letters of rec. Good luck!

Wow, you didn't need an essay or letters? I wish I could do that, because I know that my scores and grades are all acceptable for Umass and Curry!
Umass doesn't require any letters, but I'm sending one anyways, just to help myself out a little.

ask your councilor if you need one. i would but i'm slightly lazy

It's fine to duplicate essays. In fact, you could write one for the college that has a specific requirement and send that to that school, and to the schools that let you pick a topic. I think I just wrote one essay and used it for all of my applications, about an event that had affected me
For the recs, ask your teacher if they think they'd have time to fill out both. If yes, then give both to them. If no, use the guidance counselor as a backup. But ask now.
I was actually told if the school doesn't ask for a letter, and you're within their normal admissions standards, don't send one. It's just one more paper for them to lose.
If you think the online app is easier, go with that. If you prefer paper, go with that. I did all paper apps when I applied a few years ago, because my high school preferred that from an organizational standpoint (don't ask...)
