Apparently you can't have a conversation on these boards about the rules.
Yesterday I had posted in the October Cancelled ADR thread asking if you are allowed to TRADE ADRs on the boards.
Obviously I found out the answer is NO.
I then asked why? Not to challenge the rules or debate, but just honestly curious as to the reason why.
Maybe something happened in the past and that's why they aren't allowed anymore..
Maybe it was a legal issue with Disney...
I dunno. It's just a question. Jeez.

I'm NOT trying to change them, was just asking why you're not allowed to post for WANTED ADRs, and if it was only for the cancellation thread that you couldn't post about WANTS or TRADES...thinking maybe a separate thread would be allowed....which I found is not allowed either.
And so far I have gotten nothing but a few nasty comments in my message box, posts deleted with "That's not allowed, period", or flat out ignored.
A few people kindly told me to read the 1st post on the 1st page where it explains the rules, (which I didn't initially do...so that's my fault)
Another girl, 'pixie' was in her name, was very nice and tried to give me her version of an explanation why they aren't allowed...
But others?
Not calling out by name, but I guess that's why they messaged me privately because they didn't want others to see their true colors on how deep down they're just nasty, miserable people...

This is a Disney board right?
We're supposed to be happy right?
Not uptight and scolding of those simply asking questions about the rules?
Rules are in place for a reason. I 1000% understand that.
I do my best in life not to break rules and to be orderly and abide by the rules.

I'm new here and new to internet forums in general.
I have never really participated in any community boards like this before.
But I have had a really good time thus far and have talked with some really awesome people.
I have received some amazing help from others in planning my October trip.
The info here is flat out amazing.
I'm always checking the boards in the morning seeing if I could add to someone's thread with advice or simply a thumbs up.
I'm a pretty nice guy if you ask me but damn man...this just left a bad taste in my mouth.
I was going to let it go, but decided to post this because frankly, some people on this board need to really calm down and lighten up.

Have a great day everyone!

I hope your not getting called names. I sure know how it feels. But welcome!! Most threads that are being debated or have arguments I just move on. Most people on the boards are very nice. So don't let others deter you from posting or just having fun.

Not names.
Just really rude and unprofessional remarks so-to-speak.
All over a question.
I wouldn't even say I was offended, more shocked.
I consider this forum somewhat of an extension of the Disney experience...
It's an outlet for most on here to stay in touch with that Disney feeling, get excited about upcoming trips, help others with their planning, etc.

But this was similar to like a bad CM experience.
Shocks you at first, like "wow...you're a miserable human being"
But then realize it's Disney, overall awesome, no one is perfect, and move on.

99.99% of my interactions here have been great.

My very first post and honestly I don't remember if it was here or on another board but it truly was an innocent question was in regards to the "life time" reusable mugs from the All-Star resorts.
:scared1:
Oh my, one would have thought I had just tried to sell my child to a sex traffic ring. The response was beyond rude.

Lesson learned, I have much thicker skin and I learned that people who post from a position of anonymity say things that even the bravest of the brave bold people I have met in life, would never say to ones face:stir:.
Anonymity brings out the judgmental beast. Sometimes I would fire back, others, nope, clearly not worth my time or no way I was going to stoop to the same level.

Sorry you got bashed for asking a question, I know nothing of the subject but hope you found the answers you were looking for.

I do get it. Just wait til you start a thread on tipping, driving rules or God forbid a parenting style:rotfl2:. Edited to add Weddings- just don't!!!!!

Just take what you can use & ignore the rest.

First, welcome to the Dis! :welcome:

It can be an interesting place, and with such a wide variety of people we tend to encounter both the intentionally and the unintentionally rude from time to time. I'm sorry that was one of your first experiences.
:rose:

While you weren't trying to change the rules, and were just asking out of curiosity, I think many people on here take questions about why the rules are the way they are, as a challenge and they get defensive. Right or wrong, it's not uncommon for people who don't like the rules to "innocently" question them as a way of being snarky or difficult. I suspect the people who sent you messages assumed you were in that camp. A lot of people don't like the Rules (I'm not fond of some of them), but this is a private board with no actual Dis affiliation, and "Because the mods say so" is often the only reason we'll get for why something is the way it is. MOderating a board is time consuming, and often thankless, and I suspect many of the rules are in place just to reduce the workload and potential for abuse

First :welcome: to the Dis!

Don't let a few deter you from posting again. Like you, I have asked innocent questions and met with rude replies for no apparent reason. It's crazy how being behind a keyboard can bring out pure nastiness in people.

And hey, fwiw you were "daring" enough to post on the Community Boards ... which are considered the meanest group on the Dis. Looks like you've survived us so you're good. :thumbsup2

Post away!!

This jumped out at me. IMO, if you're going to post on internet forums (whether Dis or elsewhere), you do need to grow some thick skin. There will be people who are braver than they are IRL (in real life), there are others who are jerks, some having a bad day, and others who post just to get a rise out of others. There are also many who can present their "side" without degrading the other. If you stick around any board long enough, you'll learn who to ignore, who to listen to, and who to get into a discussion with.

There are a few on here I wouldn't mind meeting and having a drink with, even if we've disagreed over time.

I definitely think there's a learning curve. When I first started here, I posted a question that wasn't Disney related and related to my person life. HOLY COW did that thread get out of hand. It was so bad that it was locked and deleted.

I work in an environment where if you don't have thick skin, you're going to be miserable.
Busting chops is a daily occurrence, and when I was the newbie, it was pretty crazy at times. 13 years later, I'm desensitized from the ball breaking lol.

Thick skin is not the issue here.

I was shocked that these people couldn't understand what I was trying to convey and how they chose to respond. Even after specifically saying I agree with rules, and that I'm not debating it, it was just flat out rudeness and nastiness. I come here to talk about happy stuff, because Lord knows there's enough bad in life on a daily occurrence in this world, that places like this can be a really cool place to unwind and relax and talk about the happiest place on earth.

But I guess you're right.
Even a forum dedicated to Disney even has some pretty crappy people in it.
And learning who to engage and not to is half the battle.

Or dating!

Don't let it get you down OP! Enjoy the good and throw the rest out. Its an online forum, these are all just internet strangers. I'm happy to hear you can appreciate the good bits though!

I bet I could think of a few of those nasty members on here. I recently got a few lovely messages from members on here. I should copy/paste the massages here to expose them. One message I counted 7 f-bombs and a few pos's.

Hmmm...Sounds familiar.
But I'm moving on.
I thought about doing the same but opted to just carry on.

And there goes my plan to search it out and enjoy a read during my coffee break :)

I can sum it up for you:

'You're a bad mom'
'You should drop your daughter off at the orphanage' (not even a joke)
'How dare you put yourself first'
'I feel awful for your daughter'

I must be behind the curve. I've gotten into a few heated discussions but yet to receive a "f" bomb pm or even a pm other than - (whispers points). I feel left out nowo_Oo_O

Have a great day everyone!

You might to start by reviewing the OCTOBER 2017! CANCELLED ADR Thread - Guidelines in first post - as the board policy for that thread is stated there. As indicated in the first post, questions should be handled via Conversation/PM and not in the thread itself.

If you have a questions related to the policy itself, the best place to start is to send a message to one of the moderators on that forum. If you still need answers you can always send a message to admin@wdwinfo.com .

In the situation you were asking about, I suspect that the true answer is that those cancellation threads are not designed for questions/requests/trades in the thread itself. Those wanting to try to time one of those ADRs should contact the poster canceling directly to try to coordinate. The restrictions came after many, many issues allowing questions/requests/trades.

The DIS Guidelines, which everyone agreed to follow when they registered for the DIS, are also a good reference for answers to questions about posting on the site.

Welcome to the DIS! :)

And there goes my plan to search it out and enjoy a read during my coffee break :)
 If it's the thread I'm thinking of, I was always waiting for it to show up at the bottom of the page with a scandalous picture...if it was actually deleted, that would explain why it never did. :scratchin
I can sum it up for you:

'You're a bad mom'
'You should drop your daughter off at the orphanage' (not even a joke)
'How dare you put yourself first'
'I feel awful for your daughter'
:rotfl2:Oh, my sides - seriously, that line is classic. I may save it for the next parenting WWYD-type thread. I'd "like" your post, but I wouldn't want it taken wrong. :wave2:
