Yesterday my sister in law posted a joke on facebook. At least she claims it was a joke. I thought it was in very poor taste. Hate to say it, but she and I actually got into a pretty ugly argument over it due to one of her snobby friends getting testy with me due to me posting that I didn't think it was funny, but that is another story. Besides the fight was long over due with her and I , has been stewing for many many years.

Any way here is the jest of the joke don't remember it word for word.

News Flash: Kenyae West just interrupted Patrick Swayzes funeral claiming that Michael Jackson's was much better.

Yeah I know stupid, but IMO tacky. Her yuppy friend told me: lighten up GF, its a hoot.

I replied back that again I disagreed and something along the line of not telling me to lighten up. SIL deletes my comment, and chews me out for talking to friend like that. I replied, oh but it is okay for her to talk to me like that, not even knowing me? And the argument went on from there. All immature, petty, but as I said brewing for many years. Another long story.

Question: was the joke funny in your opinion or in poor taste? Just curious what others think. :confused3

I think it was a pretty funny joke. Not sure why you were offended by it.

You can "hide" peoples posts without taking them off your friends list, and for your sake, and hers, I think you should do that. If you didn't like her post, you should have just egnored it. I think I may post that joke on my FB page right now - I think its a hoot too!!!

I wouldn't have laughed at the joke, but I wouldn't have posted that it wasn't funny either. All people are entertained by different things.
I'm sorry that you and SIL got into a huge fight over it.

Actually, one of DDs friends posted that joke to her FB status and I almost fell on the floor laughing. The point of the joke isn't poking fun at either of the deceased, it's poking fun at Kanye. What offends you about it?

Honestly, if you don't like a comment you should ignore it.

People post dumb or silly comments all the time. One of my facebook friends is an uber-conservative who I don't agree with at all. I just ignore his comments when he types judgemental material. People are merely sharing their thoughts, they are not looking for an argument facebook.

I think you may have over-reacted a bit here. Regardless of your level of offense over the joke, facebook is not the place to pick fights.

I think the joke is stupid and tacky but since it's not poking fun at the deceased but instead at Kanyae West, who apparently is an idiot, it doesn't really bother me. However, if it did bother me and I made a comment on Facebook I'd understand that it's a public forum, much like this one, and everyone should expect that there will be those who don't agree with them.

I think this is all ado about nothing...you should have just ignored the friend's comment.

My first thought was that is was disrespectful to Patrick Swayze, with him just passing away and all. Funerals and death IMO is time of sorrow not joking around about stuff like that.

That "joke" was taken from this site, www.textsfromlastnight.com. It was featured several days ago.

It's tasteless, but it does highlight how much of a *******(Thank you, Pres. Obama!) Kanye West really is!

It sounds to me like one of the huge Sister Drama situations where next thing you know somebody will be bringing up the Barbie Doll Haircut of 1978.....

Oh wait, that's me. ;)

You got upset about a joke posted by her on her FB? If she had posted it on your FB, maybe - but on hers? And you want to argue with another person about a joke on her FB - one of her friends? And you think that is appropriate?

As for the joke - I have heard at least 20 variations of that joke in the last few days. They are all pretty funny, and they mean no disrespect to the dead. The target of the joke is Kanye...

I don't find it offensive. It is really about Kanye West and his boorish behavior. As for making jokes about deaths and funerals, some people can take it too far, but I think it is a normal human reaction to want to lighten a very depressing subject.

I thought was pretty funny.......I understand though that people don't have the same sense of humor I do, but I don't know what is offensive about it.

Yes I agree. I have been ignoring many stupid things she had been posting. REALLY stupid things, but this one kind of just hit me wrong. IMO since all I said was that I didn't really find it funny I figured no big deal I disagreed with her and friends so what. Lets move on. but when her friend made that comment I got angry. Yeh, chances are I did over react, but like I said I was foolish enough to let many years of her nonsense and all bottle up and collect and let it out right then.

if her facebook page upsets you that much, maybe you should not look at it? :confused3

ITA !

Personally, I chuckled !
But either way, Facebook isnt the place to pick fights....not just with your family members, but apparently friends of your family members

Again, why are you letting what she posts on her FB bother you? This is like getting upset about something that she writes in a journal.

It is her FB. If she wants to write that the sky is green and the grass is blue, who is harmed (other than her own credibility)?

I saw this on crackberry dot com the other day. There are about 50 of them, with photos too.

The one that got me was when Kanye interupts Beycone and says "sorry, but Taylor Swift had the best video of all time". (When Taylor got interrupted it was for best female video). Then Beyonce went on to win best overall video.

I think it's funny. I do tend to just ignore any posts that I disagree with or find offensive unless it's my dd. Then I send her a private message instead of embarassing her in a place where all her friends and relatives can read exactly what I wrote.

There's a difference between Facebook where you actually KNOW everyone posting and a message board where the odds are good you don't know anyone. There are plenty of hurt feelings even when people don't know each other--I can't imagine Thanksgiving dinner with everyone upset about a Facebook argument.

if her facebook page upsets you that much, maybe you should not look at it? :confused3

To avoid future problems I already took her off my friends list. As I said this fight between her and I was long overdue.

But my main question was is the joke funny to you? I see many think it is. That's fine. Whatever?:confused3 As said some people find things funny while others don't. Different sense of humors.
