I see so often the outpouring of support and prayers by all the kind souls who visit these boards so I now turn to you all to ask if some could be sent to my Mum.
She is 83 years old and critically ill in hospital with a disease called Amiodarone Lung. It's a rare side-effect of the drug Amiodarone which is prescribed for Arythmia. Only 10% of people get it and she did! The Doctors do feel there is more going on such as perhaps a Fungal Infection or some rare infectious process (though she shows no signs of typical infection) but in order to confirm a diagnosis they must perform a lung biopsy which given her present health, age etc...is extremely risky.
The Doctor could not emphasize enough how high the risk would be as she has no 'reserves' and is so sick. The choice is hers with our support, but truly there seems no choice. She is currently on total oxygen, gasping for breath and her oxygenation is only at 90%. If it drops lower they will put her on a 'Bipap'?? machine and failing that a ventilator. She is on massive doses of Prednisone the only known treatment for this disease and diuretics which they have now removed her from as her kidney (she has only one) is failing. (Originally she lost her other kidney due to medical malpractice after a hysterectomy...she refused to sue as God had 'spared' her life after being diagnosed with cancer...and now she suffers further)
She's had such a hard life sharing memories often in the past with us of hanging out the washing on the line in England during the war whilst the German 'doodlebugs' hovered overhead to drop bombs on nearby London, only having enough ration coupons for shoes for her 4 children thereby spending a winter in sandals and succumbing consequently to Tuberculosis.
She has had, as previously mentioned cancer, two heart attacks, quadruple bypass 5 years ago and now this.
She lost my Dad when he was 59 to cancer when she was 57 and imediately had to seek full time work to pay her bills. My Father had left so little. But in time, she paid off the mortgage and retired at 65 a week after the birth of my first daughter. In those early weeks and months....yes months...she was a godsend to us all!
She is and has always been such a wonderful Mother. Tonight her last words to me were "Say a Prayer" and I said "I will...Lots".....that's where you all come in!
I so believe in the power of prayer.....Thanks for listening and any words you could 'send up' for my Mum. I Thank-you from the bottom of my heart
