Ask Me Anything

Hello! Yes there will be lots of things for your twins to do in the nursery. They will do lots of craft and puzzles and games. Please remember to look out for the toddler times and open house times in the Club and Lab which you are welcome to attend. Unfortunately we cannot move children who are almost 3 up into the Club anymore.
Thank you! Glad to hear they wont be left just sitting with the little babies and they will have things to do! My biggest concern, want them to be happy and active too!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but did not see anything related.

We will be sailing on Dec 5 Fantasy. One DGD 18 months will be spending some time in nursery. The other DGD and 2 cousins are 3, 5, & 5 so in another group.

How many children are there in these areas---I know it will vary, but if they were to go at dinner time, how large a group would there be in each area? How many CMs? I understand there may be limits especially in the nursery, but what is the max allowed?

Thanks.

Hi KT! Can you give me an idea of what kind of activities are offered at Scuttles Cove for the 3-12 year old kids?

I'm trying to decide if/when/how long I would like to keep my almost 5 year old in the kids club. Ideally, I'd like to spend time with him on the island but it could be nice to visit Serenity Bay for an hour or two!

My daughter is about to turn 18, and is still in High School. She is quite young for her age and in no way ready to hang out with adults in the adult areas/lounges. Her sisters are 14 and 16, and will be spending time in Vibe. Will my older daughter be able to join her sisters? I have read conflicting answers, but I'm hoping that since she is still in high school they will make an exception! Especially because she does everything with her sisters! I'm quite concerned about this. Thanks for any info you can give me!

Until she actually is 18 she can participate in Vibe. Once she's 18, even if if happens on the cruise, she's an adult and unable to participate. Then she can only do the Family and Adult activities.

Time was a still-in-high-school 18 year old was allowed to use the teen club. But no longer. Has to do with the fact that they have crossed that magical line making them, legally, adults. DCL policy is no adults other than DCL CM are allowed in the kid's clubs.

Thanks for the reply, That is awful. She's not an adult! She's quite immature for her age actually, very shy, and will not feel comfortable with adults other than her dad and I. I'm not sure what to do..... She was so looking forward to having some sister time in Vibe. They make no exceptions here, but they do make exceptions for the 13 year olds to move up?

Yes, on occasion, kids are allowed to "age up". But "aging down" never happens.

They make exceptions for children aging "up" to the next space. They never make exceptions for the maximum age limit in any of the kids' spaces. Unfortunately, it apparently is a liability issue for DCL. I understand it's frustrating and disappointing, but it is a hard-and-fast rule regardless of the circumstances (still in high school, disabled, younger siblings, etc.).

Your daughters can still do many activities onboard that do not take place directly within Vibe. There are movies, the pool deck, the sports deck, towel-folding and other "all ages" programs, and I think there may be board games available during the day in one of the lounges. There should also be at least an hour of "open house" time at the Vibe each day when anyone (any age) may attend; as well, there will be similar open house times at each of the kids' spaces and your daughters may visit those together as well. Take a look at some recent Navigators for the "all ages" programming. The Vibe kids rarely go and spend all day actually within the Vibe space, they often go off for fun with friends.

Enjoy your cruise!

Just wondering if you have any information on the 1820 group. My son is 19 and will be on the Wonder in January. I let him know about the group but at this point he isn't sure about meeting with them. He is very outgoing, and very athletic. Any suggestions how to get him to get involved with the group.

It's very important that he attend the first night's meet up. They meet with the CM assigned to facilitate the group and set up what activities they would like to do during the cruise. If no one shows up, the group fizzles and nothing gets done.

Another question from me! For kids going to the Nursery, is it just pass the kid over and run or is there a way to help them adjust then go? My daughter will be 2.5 and is a very shy little girl. I don't see us being able to drop and go without her being pried from our arms and then crying hard. Really hoping going to nursery school at home for the next few months will help, but just wondering what to expect if it doesn't.

Hi! At Scuttles Cove we run programs such as sand castle building competitions, a beach party, whale dig where the children look for whale fossils, games such as capture the flag. We also have a wet deck with a trick fountain which is really fun.

That's ok ask as many questions as you want! Most of the time the Counselors will allow you in for a minute to settle your child. We do find that the children settle fairly well usually and you can watch us via a one way window.

Awesome! Sounds like alot of fun. He loves playing in the sand as digging for "fossils". Plus its nice that they can get wet. I was thinking it would be super hot otherwise. I think I may just drop him there for a few hours. Appreciate the information!

KT, thank you so much for the straight up answers. I don't have any questions personally, but I'm following this thread because it helps me to have the most accurate information for when I talk to people about Disney cruises, which happens a lot. I also just wanted to say I love what you guys do for our children. We have cruised with our kids on different cruise lines over the past 10 years, but our kids' best vacation memories are the times they've spend in the Clubs on our Disney cruises. Until they are too old (which is 3 years away for our youngest), DCL is the only cruiseline for us.

We are planning to book another cruise soon. It will probably be on the Magic, and it will probably be the last one on which our youngest will be allowed to go to the Vibe. I intend to warn the staff ahead of time that my daughter has on two difference cruises convinced everyone in the teen clubs (including the counselors from Australia) that she is Australian. Truth, she's never been there.

HI!! This is so cool. We are going on our first cruise ever next year and are so excited. I know the kids clubs are supposed to be so great. My son is going to be 12 and just wondering what kind of stuff he will do at Edge. What do you think he is going to enjoy the most? I also have a daughter who will be 9 and just wondering what kind of stuff she will be doing. I just didn't know what you found to be the biggest hit at the clubs....

Amanda
Hi! Sorry for the very late reply! In Edge they do activities such as guitar hero challenge, cupcake wars, scavenger hunt around the ship, games on the sports deck, art experiences, board games, movie nights and dance parties.
In the club and lab, there are many programs such as cooking, science experiments, scavenger hunts, detective svhool, animation classes, the royal ball, Hawaiian luau, Mouseketeer training, toy story boot camp... And many many more! There is also computer games, wii, craft and drawing, board games, movies, slide, and other games such as parachute games, musical statues, four corners etc that are always happening :)

Take advantage of the nursery open house times. On a 7 day they had one every morning while the ship was at sea. Adults were allowed into the nursery area with their little one for about an hour or so. This allowed us to be in the space with him so he knew it was a safe environment. The counselors were also there so he could meet them as well. By the time we used the nursery on day 6 he was so excited that he didn't care about us anymore, he just wanted IN and to PLAY with TOYS!

Hi - first time poster here.

We are super excited as we just booked a Disney cruise for Feb. Our son will be almost 3.5 years old then. He is fully potty trained and has been for 6 months. He is in day care is is used to playing with other kids and being around adults that are not his parent. My one concern is that I am not sure he can go to the bathroom by himself -even though he is potty trained at school I know his teachers help him pull up/down his pants, help him wash his hands, ect. Will the counsellors be able to do that or does he have to be 100% self sufficient to be able to participate in the kids club?

Thanks.

I have a son who hasn't liked the Oceanear's Club in the past because it's been too loud for him. Do you think it'd be okay if he brought noise canceling headphones in? He's 9.

Also, how common is it for a 9 year old to sign himself out of the Club? I'm considering allowing it for this trip, especially if he still isn't fond of the club. I'm debating if I'm crazy to let him do this.
